If you’ve always been wondering how the interior of the Istana is like, here’s your chance to check it out. Only opened to the public for a day in due of the coming National Day, you’ll be able to walk in on 30 July 2016, Saturday from 8.30am to 6pm.Â
Planned for the public, it is said that the Istana Art Event and Arts & Heritage Village will be the high point of the open house this year.
Performances by Bendemeer Primary School, Queenstown Secondary School, Saint Andrew’s Junior College Concert Bands and SAF Music and Drama Company will be held to entertain visitors on that day. Other activities by students include game stalls for the public to take part in.
Some activities that may entice you and your children includes the On-The-Spot-Art Competition for kids aged 3-6 years old (Junior Category) and children ages 7-12 years old (Intermediate Category) where they’ll have to draw and colour based on the theme ‘Building Our Singapore of Tomorrow’. Do remember to bring your own colouring materials and stand to win up to $200 if you score the first prize. Open to 1,000 participants, those who submit will get to receive a limited edition Istana goodie bag and free entry into the main building.
The President’s Office and National Parks Board (NParks) have also collaborated to plan a Nature Guided Walk that’s also available to the public to sign up so you’ll be able to check out the Istana’s greenery, flora and biodiversity.
Another guided tour that most visitors would be interested in is the Istana walk where volunteers would lead the public inside the Istana’s main building to check out selected function rooms as well as the display of treasured gifts given to our President and Prime Minister by foreign dignitaries.
Those who prefer to go without a tour guide can choose to explore the Istana’s garden through the  ‘Istana Garden Walk’ mobile app for directions and interesting information about the different plants and trails.
Entry to the Istana is free for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents so do remember to bring along your IC or passport! Other visitors are also welcomed with an entrance fee of $2 per person. Souvenirs will also be on sale so give a helping hand as the sale proceedings and entrance fees will be given to charities.
