Are you a bookworm?
Well, if you are, you most probably have hundreds of e-books in your Google Play Books or Amazon account, and read them comfortably at night before sleeping. Because let’s face it: our boss is a bookworm and he reads a lot (don’t know why he’s still so stupid despite reading so much), but he hasn’t bought a physical book for years.
But his Google Play Books account, according to him, is packed with so many e-books, he could have opened a library if they were all physical books.
So who still buys books?
Well, for one, it’s the fellow who still likes the smell of a brand new book. And then there’s another fellow who buys twenty books and gift them ‘coz gifting knowledge is high-SES.
If you’re one of the above mentioned, then this would please you.
Book Buffet at $50 a Box
So, SG Book Deals is a…
Oh, sorry. Their website isn’t working. Give me a moment as I do more research.
…oops.
We’ve some colleagues who used to work in the publishing and bookselling industry, but none of them is aware of what SG Book Deals is. While a big local magazine distribution and the office of a bookstore chain is located in the same building but different floor, we can’t be certain if they’re related so we’re just going to say this:
SG Book Deals is SG Book Deals.
Because who cares when there’s a…book buffet.
It’s not mentioned whether the books are published in 1999 or 2019, or whether you’ll see more The Hardy Boys books instead of Harry Potter books, but judging from the images of the previous book fairs they’ve held, they’ve got some pretty good books.
According to Mothership, previous book fairs have books by John Grisham, Stephen King, Keigo Higashino, Jodi Picoult and Terry Brooks.
For $50 a box, you can grab as many books as you want. The box is allegedly 404 x 246 x 242(h) millimetres, which isn’t that big so I’d suggest you to throw in as many Mr. Men Little Miss books as you can (if they are available, that is).
There would also an area whereby books start from $1, so that might be cheaper if you intend to just buy many books.
Book Fair, a Cash Cow for Booksellers
Now, remember that I mentioned we have people who worked in this industry before?
According to them, a book fair is one of the best-est ways to sell books, whether it’s to consumers like us or to organizations like libraries.
I quote my colleague’s words, “People or purchaser tend to anyhowly buy because they’re just given a budget. They won’t care what books to buy; they just buy.”
In addition, the direct sale model means that the profit margin is much higher, as middleman costs (i.e. bookstores lah, distributors lah) could add up to almost 60% of the selling price.
So, yeah. With a $50-a-box-budget system, I’m sure it’ll work like magic.
