Don’t Say Bojio: New Shop in Orchard Giving Out Free Mini Croissants & Bubble Tea (6 & 7 June)

Some of you will have this feeling: see a Grab or McDonald’s delivery and immediately hope that some of the food is yours. Even if you didn’t order anything.

If there’s anything I like better than most things, it is the appearance and delivery of free food. It’s like surprise Christmas, but better because it’s edible.

So when LaLune Croissant delivered stuff to our doorsteps unannounced, there was only one thing I can think of.

In truth, I was probably the only one excited since my fat boss is looking at it and thinking of the extra work and obligations. Naturally, this was added to my workload.

“Here, these croissants and bubble tea. Your OT pay.”

So there you have it. I guess I’m writing about LaLune.

But I’m not the only one who can receive free food, because…

They Sell Croissants and Milk Tea

At this point, you’re probably thinking if the croissants contained boba. But no. They were, disappointingly, separate.

While I would like to say I’m doing an objective, unbiased, awesome review, the croissants delivered to my stomach were soggy and lost their flaky structure.

I blame the deliverer for ruining my free food and told my colleagues to rate the Grab rider 1 star, but apparently, it was delivered by a fairly young girl.

Turns out, that young girl is a local 23-year-old NTU fresh graduate who opened LaLune together with her mom, selling freshly baked croissants and bubble tea using natural and healthier options.

I imagine the thought process was to appear more sincere with personal delivery. Considering the ulu location of our offices, I guess that’s A for Affort and C for Grab delivery cosplay.

Also, I’d like a moment to cry for myself a little here, for the appreciation of the similar aged with higher accomplishments.

Initial Reviews are decent

Going to Burpple, there are about 4 decent reviews. I have no idea who Xing Wei Chua is and how is he reviewing everything I ate, but here’s what he has to say about it:

“Was expecting more artisan creations but the offerings here seem a little closer to home considering the execution and style of the croissants they have to offer. Opting for the Black & White filled croissant, the croissant lacks the buttery flakiness of the ideal French croissant; instead, just airy with pretty large air pockets and a little more on the bready side. Lined with white chocolate at the bottom, the filling felt a tad sweet and generic; rather suited to the direction that they are going for. Nothing very wrong about it, but expectations should be managed that this is not going to be the true-blue French croissant for those whom have been exposed to more finer pastries elsewhere.”

In short, not the best but decent.

Which was actually the same as my biased thoughts for the soggy croissants with some imagination of their potential.

But tasting the products, they are not very fatty or sweet. They felt like everyday croissants and bubble tea that wouldn’t win any awards, but something you can eat regularly.

“They also have drinks like coffee and bubble tea, but these didn’t impress (especially with Koi right opposite them), so stick to their bakes.”

Which somewhat mirrors the croissant reviews; decent but not impressive.

But, don’t trust us. Go there for free food on 6 and 7 June and trust your own taste buds.
