As any driver of a vehicle with an automatic transmission will know, there are two main pedals that you have to step on with your right foot.

The left foot can usually take a nap during rides, except in cars where the handbrake is controlled by the left foot.

The two main pedals you have to deal with are the accelerator – what makes the vehicle increase its speed, and the brakes – what slows or makes the vehicle come to a stop.

Mixing up the two pedals is like mixing up laxatives for constipation medication; it doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it can have disastrous consequences.

Driver Stepped on the Wrong ‘Brakes’ when Parking; Ended Up Busting Through an HDB Wall

A driver who accidentally stepped on his car’s accelerator at a car park ended up busting through a void deck and crashing into a pillar.

According to Sin Ming Dailythe incident occurred at around 9.26am on Sunday morning (21 March) at 542 Hougang Avenue 8.

An onlooker who witnessed the strange incident alerted the local Chinese daily, who sent a reporter down to the scene.

When the reporter arrived, she found that the car had smashed through one of the pillars of the void deck at the base of the HDB block. The ground was strewn with broken bricks.

In addition, the sewage pipe on the ground floor of the HDB was also damaged, causing a mess.

Sin Ming Daily reported that the offending car had a special decal on the windshield of the car, meaning he was likely a private-hire car driver.

According to the Chinese daily, the driver was parking his car in an open-air parking lot here when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator, presumably instead of the brakes.

This caused his car to speed across the lot and crash into the pillar of the void deck.

Driver is in His 60s

A resident of the block said that when he heard the sound of a fire engine, he naturally assumed that a fire had broken out nearby.

But when he went downstairs to investigate the commotion, he realised it was a car accident.

The driver of the car was reportedly a man in his 60s. He walked out of his car himself and was then carried on a stretcher to an ambulance.

The police later confirmed that a 62-year-old man had been sent to hospital for treatment while conscious.
