Driver Who Hit 221kmh on CTE Jailed Four Months, Banned From Driving for Three Years

Goh Jared-Kane, 26, was jailed for four months on 6 October 2026 after driving at up to 221kmh on the Central Expressway (CTE).

He also received a three-year driving ban. He had admitted a dangerous driving charge on 8 September.

Judge Rejects Defence’s Argument That He Was A Victim

According to The Straits Times’ sentencing report, defence lawyer Foo Cheow Ming asked for a fine. If the court imposed imprisonment, he argued that Goh should receive a shorter term than the other drivers involved.

The lawyer portrayed Goh as a victim of the incident, arguing that the people he had harmed were himself and his passenger.

District Judge Cheng Yuxi rejected that argument. She said his repeated speeding reflected deliberate decisions over the course of the drive.

The prosecution had requested between three-and-a-half and five months in jail, plus a driving ban lasting three to four years.

Drove At Over Twice The CTE Speed Limit

The offence took place during a group drive in the early hours of 27 October 2024.

Goh drove a blue Mitsubishi Evo. The six cars travelled from Stadium Boulevard via the Pan Island Expressway and CTE towards Orchard Road.

The CTE section had a 90kmh limit. The court heard that Goh’s speed reached up to 221kmh.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Chye Jer Yuan said Goh had exceeded the limits at seven locations between the CTE and Stamford Road.

Braking Was Followed By Collisions

On Stamford Road, Goh braked to avoid a vehicle turning right into Queen Street. A car behind struck the rear of his vehicle.

Another driver swerved onto the grass verge and his car overturned. Debris from the crash prompted a further driver to brake, and another car hit him from behind.

Goh and his 22-year-old female passenger were injured.

Police said they were alerted to the overturned car at about 1:30am. Their investigations subsequently linked the crash to the six vehicles travelling together.

All six drivers were arrested and suspended from driving, while police took possession of their cars as evidence.
