A 14-year-old boy and a 38-year-old Malaysian man worked together to steal valuables worth S$47,200 from a sex worker in Singapore.

The court ordered the boy, now 17, to serve at least one year of reformative training after he admitted to the offences on 28 April 2025.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the boy, a Chinese national living in Singapore, first met the Malaysian man, surnamed He, in September 2022.

He was working at a phone shop in Geylang when the boy visited to buy a SIM card.

They exchanged contact details and grew close, with the boy calling He “big brother” and He calling the boy “little brother”.

First Target: Hairdresser Robbery

In October 2022, He told the boy he was in debt.

The boy suggested they steal from a 71-year-old hairdresser, with whom he had a previous dispute.

On 14 October 2022, they went to the salon armed with a toy gun. He choked the hairdresser from behind while the boy took S$900 from the cash register.

He was dissatisfied with the amount, so they decided to target a sex worker next.

The Sex Worker Incident

The duo found a 40-year-old sex worker online and arranged a meeting at her unit.

The boy posed as her client and gave her a beer laced with sleeping pills. After she lost consciousness, the boy let He into the unit.

They took luxury items, including two Rolex watches – one valued at S$25,000 and the other at S$15,000 – along with other valuables.

He later sold the watches for S$24,000 and gave the boy S$1,500. He also gave a stolen necklace to the boy’s girlfriend.

The sex worker reported the theft to the police the next day. Investigations led to the arrest of both individuals.

The Malaysian man was sentenced to four years and nine months in jail and 24 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty.

Additional Offences While Out on Bail

While out on bail in April 2024, the boy drove his girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time, in her mother’s car.

He drove against traffic along Jalan Besar and Plumer Road. A police officer stopped the car and began the investigation.

The boy faced sixteen charges, including theft, housebreaking, and violating the Road Traffic Act. He pleaded guilty to six charges.

The court also banned him from driving or obtaining a driving licence in Singapore for one year.

During court proceedings, the boy’s lawyer said he targeted the hairdresser because of a previous argument involving rude remarks directed at his girlfriend.

The lawyer also said the boy drove underage to fulfil his pregnant girlfriend’s food cravings.
