Making desserts at home isn’t as difficult as it used to be.
Nowadays, with thousands of instructional videos on YouTube, all you have to do is gather all the ingredients, follow their every instruction, and try not to burn the house down.
When we get a little more experienced, we might experiment with ingredients, hoping to create something new.
A group of residents in Siglap, for instance, tried adding one unusual ingredient into their cakes and cookies.
But this ingredient wasn’t exactly to make it taste good.
Drugs Hidden in Baked Goods & Butter Seized in CNB Raid
Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers must have wondered if they accidentally entered a bakery when they raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Siglap Walk.
There, they found what looked like cookies, cakes, and a boatload of drugs.
They now believe that the baked goods and butter they found were infused with cannabis.
In total, officers found:
- 3,159g of cannabis
- 14g of methamphetamine (also known as Ice)
- 9g of cocaine
- 9 Ecstasy tablets
- one Erimin-5 tablet
- 108 LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps
- 51 pieces of drug-laced baked goods
All the drugs, estimated to be worth more than S$57,000, were seized, as well as S$4,100 in cash.
According to CNB, the drugs seized in the operation is sufficient to feed about 520 cannabis abusers for a week.
A 30-year-old man, and a woman, 25, who are both Singaporean, were arrested for suspected drug activities.
A 25-year-old Singaporean man and a 38-year-old male foreign national who visited the same unit separately were also arrested.
Police investigations are ongoing.
CNB: Adverse Effects of Cannabis Means it Should Remain an Illicit Drug in Singapore
In its press release, CNB noted that cannabis has been decriminalised or legalised in some countries.
However, due to its adverse effects, it said, it should remain an illicit drug in Singapore.
“Singapore stands firm in our belief that every person should have the right to live in an environment free of drugs,” said Leon Chan, assistant commissioner and deputy director of CNB (Operations).
Four Singaporeans Arrested For Possessing Duty-unpaid Cigarettes
In another incident on 18 June, the Singapore Customs arrested four Singaporeans and seized 2,982 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
The offenders, all men, are aged between 21 and 48.
Officers grew suspicious when they observed three men transferring long pieces of metal planks from one truck to another at a heavy vehicle carpark at Yishun Avenue 7.
When they conducted a check, they found 2,982 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes, some of which were still concealed in metal planks.
In total, the Goods and Services tax (GST) evaded amounted to about S$254,660 and S$20,430, respectively.
Those who evade GST can be fined up to 40 times the amount evaded.
