Duck Tour Passengers Complained After Accident With Car Led to Delay

Duck Tours is something amusing to tourists and locals alike, where the vehicle featuring duck features can travel on both land and in the water.

Unfortunately, what was meant to be a happy tour around Singapore for some ended up leaving a bitter aftertaste as the vehicle was involved in an accident with another car, cutting the tour short.

Here is what happened.

Amphibious Vehicle Got Into an Accident With Another Car

According to the local Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News, there was a dispute on Thursday (27 July 2023) between some passengers onboard the Captain Explorer DUKW tour and staff working for City Tours.

City Tours is a tour company.

The reason? The tour the passengers signed up for was delayed and cut short after an accident.

The amphibious vehicle which the passengers were to take was involved in an accident near Esplanade (along Raffles Boulevard).

The accident reportedly occurred around 2.36 pm, and the 47-year-old male driver was brought to hospital in a conscious state, according to police sources who spoke to The Straits Times.

According to a tourist with the surname Zhang, the tour was scheduled to start at 2.30 pm but was delayed after the accident.

The 44-year-old shared that the amphibious vehicle spent a mere 5 minutes in the water. He found that “unacceptable”.

For those unaware, the tour usually takes an hour, and the river ride portion is 35 minutes. This was shared by Ms Wendy Leong (the City Tours general manager) in an interview with The Straits Times.

The usual route takes passengers through the Civic District and the Singapore River.

Passengers Unhappy That Tour Was Cut Short

The Straits Times also reported that they viewed a video featuring tourists and City Tours staff members arguing with each other. The raised voices eventually turned into a shouting match.

The tourists were allegedly demanding some compensation from the tour company because of the poor tour they experienced.

Fortunately, things calmed down after the staff offered the tourists a full refund of the ticket and an apology.

Nothing can make the world go round like money can.

According to Shin Min, there were also delays to the subsequent tours as the previous batch of tourists refused to get off the vehicle.

The delays were up to 30 minutes, causing some unhappiness amongst the subsequent batch of passengers.

What a wild ride for these passengers who just wanted a chill tour of Singapore.
