Imagine this:

You start the day with your usual 16 cups of bubble tea for breakfast, after which you head to work.

Throughout the day, you purchase various burgers from McDonald’s, a box of Hello Kitty face masks, and a subscription to an app called How to Get Abs in 6 Days which you’ll never use.

Days later, when you’re checking if your salary has come in, you notice that all of these purchases have been charged twice, and for no apparent reason.

It sounds crazy, but it’s been happening to several POSB and DBS customers here lately.

DBS & POSB Customers Notice Double Charges on Their Debit & Credit Cards

Several disgruntled DBS and POSB customers have complained that they were charged twice for transactions they made on credit and debit cards.

One Facebook user addressed a post to POSB’s Facebook page, hoping to find a solution to the annoying glitch.

According to the user, she noticed that her husband was charged a second time for a transaction made at a Giant outlet.

The amount was same, but the second charge was made four days after the purchase.

Similarly, the woman was charged on 18 June for a Grab purchase which she had made on 15 June and had already been charged for.

Several netizens commented that they too had been experiencing the same thing, with many adding that they were unable to log into their accounts through the app or internet banking portal.

As a result of the high traffic on DBS’ internet banking portal, the site carried a warning saying: “We are experiencing heavy traffic to our services. You will be redirected shortly. Alternatively, please log in later.”

Customers Will Get Refunds

Today (18 June), DBS issued a statement in response to the complaints, saying it’s aware of duplicate transactions on selected debit and credit cards.

“We are identifying and fixing the issue,” it said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and seek your understanding,” the bank said.

POSB released a similar statement on its Facebook page, with both banks reassuring customers that any duplicate charges will be refunded.

It’s unclear when the refunds will come through, or if the glitch has been fixed.

Until then, it’s probably a good idea for DBS and POSB customers to make payments using cash.

And once the problem has been rectified, we can all go back to spending excessively large amounts on things we don’t need without feeling as much guilt.
