Famed for their wit and apt timing, the marketing/advertising team over at Durex really knows what they are doing, and they do it well.
After all, who can forget their iconic tongue-in-cheek ad during Father’s Day?
This time around though, they have something special whipped up… just in time for April 1st.
It’s like April Fools came early!
Durex Singapore has recently released an ad on Facebook introducing their latest new flavoured condoms.
On 1 April, Durex is (apparently) going to release what was called their “limited edition Singapore’s Favourites flavoured condoms”, featuring one-of-a-kind flavours like Mao Shan Wang, Singapore Chendol and Botak Coconut Sherbet.
The company even hinted that Facebook users who commented which flavour they’d like to try on the post might actually get a taste.
And for the many followers of the brand on Facebook, it feels like April Fools came early.
One user commented that “she is not the perfect match if she does not like my mao shan wang”.
On the other hand, another user raised a very good point that I’m sure everyone is already thinking about, “Wa Lao. Durian…cannot make it la. Already original taste will kpkb. Still durian some more. Haha”
There’s also the possibility that these new flavours might turn pleasurable moments into painful ones too.
As one user pointed out, “can’t wait to see 8 days later on the news of the sudden rise of men admitting to hospital after similiar cases of bitten genitals….”
There are also a handful of users lamented the lack of their highly-awaited “mala hot pot flavour” – a flavour that they have been “waiting for” since 2019.
There are lots of “great” flavour suggestions from their followers as well. From Tom Yum to Bubble Tea, to even Chili Crab and the infamously-stinky beans, the Petai, there is certainly no lack of imagination, or appetite for that matter, in the comments section.
Let’s all also give a moment of silence for those who don’t have a partner to try out these “scrumptious” flavours with.
They did a similar thing back in 2019
As mentioned, they introduced the “Fish Skin Condom with Mala Hot Pot flavour” condoms.
But it was their response to the post that won the comment of the year:
However, unlike this older post, they might have released their latest new flavours a wee bit early this year.
Is it a fluke or is it intentional?
I guess we’ll never know and honestly, I’m sure the netizens on Facebook don’t really care – just keep those funny ads coming, Durex!
