After a long hiatus, e-scooters are back on the front page news again.
Okay, maybe not that long, but you’ve got to admit that errant e-scooters doing things so ridiculous you can scarcely believe it has not happened for quite some time.
Until recently, that is.
Video of Shouting Match at Orchard Road Goes Viral
Facebook user, Andy Yeu Mai, uploaded a video onto the popular Facebook page, Complaint Singapore.
It showed two men shouting at each other after an e-scooter collision with a three-year-old kid.
(We’ve embedded the video from another Facebook Page as the video from Complaint Singapore can’t be embedded)
A woman was seen keeping the two men apart while bystanders attended to the child.
At the time of writing, the post (from Complaint Singapore) has garnered 2.2k shares with over 600 comments by our lovely netizens.
Guess it’s going to be the next big viral in 2019.
What Happened
The incident allegedly happened at around 9.15 pm on 19 Apr 2019.
An e-scooter was zooming down Orchard Road when he knocked into a three-year-old kid in yellow.
Andy claimed that after the rider had knocked the kid down, and a man, presumably the father, punched the rider.
Zig-Zagging E-Scooter
Andy claimed that just before the incident, the e-scooter rider ‘zigzagged’ past him.
He brought up about the current Active Mobility Act which stated that e-scooters have to adhere to the speed limit of 10km/h on the pathway.

And asserted that the rider was travelling way more than 25km/h.
According to Andy, the kid had a large swell on his forehead and suffered from minor cuts as well.
You can view his recounting of the event below:
Unremorseful
Now, if you’re a rider who had just knocked a kid down, you’ll probably be horrified and apologise profusely.
Especially if you’ve been speeding like the netizen claims.

However, the rider shouted back that parents should be the one keeping a lookout for their kids.
Netizens’ Comments
Needless to say, most netizens aren’t exactly impressed with the e-scooter rider.
Some even mentioned that if it happened to them, the e-scooter rider wouldn’t be shouting on the PMD.

Although it must be said that if you resort to violence, both get into trouble. Nuff said.
One netizen decided to be objective and decide after watching.
And another felt that the current regulations isn’t enough.

But Surprise, Surprise
There are people who felt that the entire incident was unwarranted.
One dude decides to bring in the race card as well.
Needless to say, it was an unpopular comment.
And I wouldn’t want to buy into that notion as well. If not, next thing you know, people are going to ask: Why Chinese people like to bang down 3YO kids with e-scooter ah?
Moral of the story? Don’t speed on the pathway. Don’t bang kids and get defensive. And most importantly, don’t play the race card.
