Hello, fellow night owls and people who have plans on Fridays and Saturdays in November, we have important news about our dearest SMRT for you.
Early closures of selected MRT stations.
After all, you wouldn’t want to rush for the last train only to realise the train station’s shuttles are down.
Early Closure of Stations To Extend Engineering Hours
SMRT engineers typically work during the night to replace and maintain components on the track so you won’t have another major breakdown like the one that happened in August this year.
SMRT calls them “engineering hours”.
However, sometimes, these hours aren’t enough for what SMRT needs to do. Which is why they started closing selected stations earlier to give the engineers more time to carry out their work.
The additional hours gained from the early closure will be used to work on the renewal of the power supply system.
6 Stations Affected By Early Closure This Month
For the month of November, stations affected are on the EWL. The stations include Pioneer, Joo Koon, Gul Circle, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West Road and Tuas Link stations.
The stations will close earlier at around 11 pm and train services in both directions will be affected.
Dates of early closure: 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24 Nov.
You can find out more here.
Shuttle Bus Services Deployed To Maintain Connectivity
During the early closures, SMRT will deploy shuttle buses to allow commuters to travel from the affected stations.
The buses will stop at designated bus stops near the MRT stations and link both Tuas Link and Boon Lay train station.
SMRT would like to remind commuters to add additional travelling time when travelling on the shuttle buses.
The frequency of the shuttle bus is expected to be 2 to 10 minutes.
Well, at least this time, the early closure affected stations on the extreme end of the west so it won’t be too much of a hassle. Probably.
Share this with your fellow friends and make your plans accordingly, okay? If not, you might just need to shell out even more money for Grab or taxi midnight charges.
