Would we be spending Christmas at home or at Orchard Road?

A top doctor in the USA think it might be Orchard Road based on early feedback about the Omicron variant.

Reader: Wait, how come a US doctor knows about Orchard Road?

Top US Doctor Said Early Feedback on Omicron Severity is ‘Encouraging’

According to Dr Anthony Fauci, the US leading pandemic adviser and the guy who unfriended Donald Trump, the early indications on Omciron’s severity are “a bit encouraging” but more information is still required.

It is still too early to make any definitive statements about the variant but it does not look like there’s a great degree of severity to it.

However, there are lots of factors and studies about the variant still required before they can determine the severity of this illness and if it will cause other illnesses.

But so far, the signals are encouraging.

Lest you’re not aware, this has been the signals we’ve been hearing since the variant emerged.

To know why viruses mutate, watch this to the end:

Risk in Vaccines’ Effectiveness

Conversely, Stephen Hoge, president of Moderna, said there’s a risk that the current vaccines’ effectiveness may decrease.

He is unsure how much decrease there will be but there is a chance we may see something similar with the Delta variant where the efficacy of the vaccine against it may be at a 50% mark.

That simply means the current vaccines need to be rebooted.

With that in mind, pharmaceutical companies like Moderna and Pfizer have already started working on the updated vaccines. This updated vaccine will only be released if the scientists find the current vaccines to be insufficient against the Omicron variant.

Omicron Cases Confirmed in About 40 Countries

So far, Omicron has reached over 40 countries. Most of the cases have been found in arriving travellers.

World Health Organization epidemiologist Dr Maria Van Kerkhove said even if the researchers found the Omicron variant to be less dangerous than the Delta variant, that doesn’t mean there will not be any problems.

The Omicron variant will still be problematic and it will still affect many individuals.
