If you’re a serious foodie or just an Eastie, you’d definitely have eaten at or at least heard of East Coast Lagoon Food Village before, one of the most iconic hawker centres in the East to fill your tummy up with good food at.
In the good old days before COVID-19 visited us, it was nearly impossible to find a seat, much less fight the long queues amidst the throngs of people crowding to get their hands on some orh jian or char kway teow.
Sadly, it looks like food escapades to the seaside hawker centre will have to be put on pause for a while.
Closed For Three Months’ Renovation
The National Environment Agency (NEA) announced that the East Coast Lagoon Food Village would be closed for three months from 2 Nov this year to 1 Feb 2021.
The popular food centre will be closed for Repairs and Redecoration/Renovation (R&R) works.
This is part of NEA’s initiative to maintain the cleanliness and state of hawker centres in Singapore, stating that “hawker centres are an integral part of Singapore life, offering a wide selection of food and market produce at affordable prices.”
Regular spring cleaning and R&R works are thus carried out occasionally at some hawker centres that are MSE-owned.
Along with the East Coast Lagoon Food Village, Zion Riverside Food Center will also be closed from 1 Nov 2020 to 28 Feb 2021 for the same cleaning routine.
Home Of Everyone’s Favourite Food
In case you haven’t had the chance to be introduced to the delicious offerings at East Coast Lagoon Food Village, don’t worry, for you still have the entire October to visit the food centre to try them out before they close.
Some highlighted stalls include the famous Lagoon Carrot Cake, Song Kee Fried Oyster, and Stingray Forever BBQ Seafood.

Others Will Be Closed For Spring Cleaning, Too
If you’re a hawker-centre buff, you may also want to know that several hawker centres will be closed for a short while for spring cleaning purposes.
Here’s the list of centres and the dates they will be temporarily closed for the rest of the month as well as the coming October:
In light of the pandemic, spring cleaning efforts have understandably been stepped up, to keep everyone safe while still enjoying our favourite local delicacies.
Just remember to practice safe distancing while battling the queues.
