However, it’s testament to the citizens’ spirits, when the current circumstances have not deterred them from uniting in the face of a common cause.

With the appropriate safety measures, of course. Because uniting in an illegal sense is not unity, but…

And how volunteers have taken it upon themselves to take the initiative, and make the coast a clear one again.

But before we unveil the main story, here’s how it all happened.

On 28 July, we learn that heaps of garbage have been strewn along the beach, an occurrence possibly attributed to the monsoon season.

Trash and plastic lined the coasts, with a plethora of dead fishes forming some sort of grotesque sashimi-like fest.

The pile of trash also stretched for a long distance.

Like really long.

According to a Netizen, it’s supposedly a yearly affair from May to Sept every year.

The Together East Coast Plan Best East Coast Cleanup Plan

Following the shocking turn of events, volunteers have organised a self-titled ‘Best East Coast Cleanup Plan’, in a bid to restore East Coast Park to its former glory.

Consisting of a Telegram group and Google Docs proposal, the #EastCoastBeachPlan! is an initiative that provides volunteers a platform to organise cleanups.

And it seems that work has been fast and efficient, as a sneak peek on Wednesday (29 July) revealed a sight that’s way better on the palette.

As mentioned earlier on, unity is a positive aspect that should not be marred by any illegal notion…

And this case is no different.

As such, should you wish to join in on the clean-up initiative, always remember to keep to groups of 5 and maintain a 1-metre distance from one another at all times.

Also, bring your own tongs and masks because this isn’t exactly a secondary school clean-up initiative.
