If you’ve ever been in an authoritative position, you would know that it’s easy to set rules…
But unimaginably hard to enforce them.
See, here’s the thing. Rules are routinely meant to be complied with, but whether people actually go by the book is another notion altogether.
Which, in all honesty, is a scenario perhaps best encapsulated by the following incident.
S’pore Eatery Owner Has to Call the Cops When Diners Don’t Comply With Safe-Distancing Measures
On 16 August, Facebook user Sid Kim, who professed to be the owner of Vatos Urban Tacos at South Beach and Vatos Cantina at Holland Village, posted a rather thought-provoking update on the social media site.
According to the post, the restaurant has had its fair share of ‘social distancing’ incidents over the last couple of days, a notion that has proven distressing to him and his team.
On 15 August, he wrote, two tables of 5 continued to mingle despite repeated warnings from the staff members. This led to a social distancing officer coming in twenty minutes later, who told them in no uncertain terms that if he saw something like this again, the restaurant will be fined and shut down.
The next day, yet another incident occurred, this time with a table of 4 and a table of 3 which continuously mingled and socialised together.
Despite the manager’s initial attempt to stop them in a nice manner, they allegedly “ignored her completely”, which led to her becoming sterner. Left with no other choice, the restaurant staff asked both tables to leave the premises.
But the patrons did not comply.
The staff members then called the police. At that juncture, a passer-by took a picture of the group of seven, walked up to one of the staff members and allegedly said that they will be reporting the restaurant for breaching safe distancing regulations.
Well, that sure escalated quickly.
As it turns out, the guests in the aforementioned incident would vacate the scene before the police officers arrived.
The Facebook user then spoke of how the breach of safe distancing regulations is literally a matter of life and death for restaurants, especially in these dire circumstances.
He also implored patrons to be more understanding and requested that they abstain from putting restaurants through such situations.
“The rules, whether you agree with them or not, are for everyone,” he concluded.
“And as you may know, they will be strictly enforced. I implore you all to please not be a$$holes when dining out and help follow safe distancing protocols. Thank you.”

Suffice to say, netizens were in full support of the establishment, with some reprimanding the said customers, and others suggesting proper deterrents to discourage incidents of such nature from happening in the future.
