Early this morning (27 August 2022), a young man’s body was found floating in the sea at East Coast Park.
A 24-year-old guy, who most likely drowned while in the water, has been identified as the victim.
Body Lying on the Sand
According to Shin Min Daily News, at around six in the morning, a family arrived at ECP for a fishing trip and saw a crowd forming near the shore.
When they took a closer look, they saw officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) who appeared to be handling a case.
Then they saw a man’s body lying on the sand. The body was lying face up and the deceased was wearing swimming attire, a family member told the Chinese daily.
It’s speculated that he might have drowned while swimming in the sea. A blue tent was later placed over the body by the police.
The body was later carried away.
The SCDF confirmed that they received a call for help at ECP this morning. They said in a statement, “On 27 Aug 2022 at about 7am, SCDF received a call for a water rescue assistance at 920 East Coast Park, near Carpark C1. Upon SCDF’s arrival, a body was seen floating in the water. SCDF rescuers retrieved the body from the shoreline. The person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.”
Investigations are ongoing. The SPF has, however, ruled out foul play following preliminary investigations.
Similar Drowning Case Last Year
Last year, the body of a 62-year-old man was found at East Coast Park on 8 March in a suspected drowning case.
The police had retrieved the body from the waters near car park F3, and they were alerted to the case early morning at 7:04am.
Similarly, the body was found floating in the water.
It was then reported that the man had frequented East Coast Park to fish there.
