76 YO Elderly Woman Used A Piece of Wood To Beat Up 39 YO Attacker

When you’re out on the streets, be careful who you mess with.

As the saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Unfortunately, this 39-year-old man in San Fransisco didn’t get the memo.

Attacks Against Elderly Asians

While Singapore promotes the culture of racial harmony, with people of different cultures and religions living harmoniously together, it’s not the same everywhere else.

Multiple unprovoked attacks were made against elderly Asian Americans in the Bay Area in 2021.

It got so serious a special response team was put together to combat the crimes against the vulnerable population.

The police presence in the area is also being increased.

76 YO Elderly Woman Used A Piece of Wood To Beat Up 39 YO Attacker

On 18 Mar 2021, it was reported that the latest victim of these attacks is a 76-year-old woman, Xiao Zhen Xie.

She was waiting to cross San Francisco’s Market Street at a traffic light when a stranger punched her in the eye.

According to her daughter, Dong Mei-Li, her mother found the stick in the vicinity and started fighting back.

While she did not escape the assault unscathed, it was the alleged assailant who ended up handcuffed to a stretcher and sent to the hospital.

Pummelling The Attacker

According to eyewitnesses, they saw the elderly woman pummelling the man on the street.

A video of the aftermath was uploaded onto Twitter.

Xie could be seen holding a piece of cloth to the left side of her head while shouting at the attacker in Chinese.

She asked why he hit her before turning to the crowd and pointing him out as the attacker.

According to Li, her mother was “traumatised” and “very scared”.

Investigations Are Ongoing

The police are now investigating the unidentified 39-year-old man for two separate assaults.

Apparently, before Xie was assaulted, an 83-year-old Asian man was attacked.

They are now investigating to check if “racial bias” (read: discrimination) was a factor in the crime.

Meanwhile, patrols will also be “stepped up” in the area, the San Fransisco police said.

A Spate Of Attacks

As mentioned in the earlier part of this article, multiple attacks have taken place against elderly Asians in the area.

On 28 Jan, an 84-year-old Thai national was killed while taking his morning walk.

A 28-year-old man was also charged for injuring a 91-year-old man, a 60-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman in Oakland’s Chinatown area.

A 67-year-old man was reportedly attacked and robbed by three nineteen-year-olds on 23 Feb 2021.
