Usually, when a new drama is announced, the studio would be more than happy to reveal the names of the actresses and actors, using their names to garner publicity for the production.
However, a Chinese drama did the opposite; they did not reveal who was the female lead.
And it turned out to be a Singaporean.
S’porean Actress Eleanor Lee Revealed to be The Secretive Female Lead of a Chinese Drama
In May 2024, production commenced on the Chinese drama Go To The Mountains And Sea, a 40-episode adaptation of the wuxia novel Shen Zhou Qi Xia by Malaysian author Woon Swee Oan.
The series features prominent actors Gulnazar and Cheng Yi, both from China, in leading roles, with Hong Kong’s Julian Cheung portraying Cheng Yi’s father.
In other words, all superstars.
However, a notable aspect of the production was the deliberate secrecy surrounding the casting of Tang Fang, the female lead and love interest of Cheng Yi’s character, Xiao Qiu Shui.
Despite on-set photos surfacing online, the production team refrained from confirming the actress’s identity, leading to widespread speculation.
And all of a sudden, on 25 October 2024, Singaporean actress Eleanor Lee publicly confirmed her role as Tang Fang via her Instagram account, coinciding with the conclusion of filming.
