Previously, when he announced that he has changed his gender, a huge ruckus erupted.

After all, he wasn’t just any actress, he was an Oscar-nominated actress.

Well, months after the hoo-ha, Elliot Page is back again.

And this time, he’s ready to act.

Former Juno & X-Men Star Who Changed Gender Says He’s Fully Embraced Himself Now

In his first major interview, the Halifax-raised performer says he’s “really excited to act” and has embraced who he fully is.

He is currently filming season 3 of The Umbrella Academy in Toronto.

Page added that he is excited to explore “a new spectrum of roles”.

Uncomfortable In His Own Skin

When Page came out as gay in 2014, he was still uncomfortable in his body.

He revealed that he was still suffering from depression, anxiety and panic attacks.

After he was nominated for the Oscars for his performance as a pregnant teenager in Juno, he struggled with the stress of his burgeoning fame.

Even in the months leading up to his transgender disclosure in December, they were fraught with “anxiety and fear”.

When he came out with his decision to turn into a man, he was recovering from an operation to remove breast tissue.

That surgery, he added, has “totally transformed” his life.

A Responsibility To Stand Up For Transgender People

In the same interview, Page said that it is his “responsibility” to share his truth.

“We know who we are.

“People cling to these firm ideas (about gender) because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate all the wonderful complexities of people, the world would be such a better place.”

Only by doing so can he counter the “myths and damaging rhetoric” regarding transgender people.

Page has long since been an outspoken supporter of the LBGTQ+ community.

On 14 Feb 2014, Page came out as a gay woman in a Human Rights’ Campaign Conference Time To Thrive.

In front of hundreds of attendees, Page gave a heartfelt and personal speech:

“I’m here today because I am gay, and because maybe I can make a difference, to help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.

“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”

Her eight-minute speech was met with standing ovations.

The movie that he helped produce, Freeheld, is based on the love between two women, one of whom is dying, and their efforts to get her police pension given to the other half.

It was also revealed that he is still “close friends” with his wife, renowned choreographer Emma Porter despite having divorced her early this year.
