What comes to mind when you think of Energizer?
I picture the iconic grey and black cylinder, with the protrusion at one end. Specifically the AA variety of dry cells.
Sometimes I imagine it with eyes, arms and legs, which it enthusiastically uses to run towards the audience.
Inspiring.
Energizer is widely agreed to be the best, or at least one of the best battery brands you can find out there.
They make a range of batteries from alkaline to lithium.
Now, say you heard that Energizer started making smartphones. What would you picture?
Something that never says die?
Because it turns out that for a while now, they’ve quietly slipped into the smartphone market, and recently they have released a product that certainly caught people’s attention.
The Energizer Power Max P18K
The Energizer Power Max P18K, by Avenir (which licensed the Energizer brand), is an abomination of a smartphone that really sets itself apart from what’s on the market.
Its battery (that presumably makes up most of its bulk) boasts a capacity of 18000 mAh and claimed to be able to weather 50 days with one full charge, instead of the usual 9 to 10 hours (refer to the list below for more extensive comparison).
It is certainly a brand new angle that has never been seen before, yet for Energizer to do this seems so predictable that you can’t help being amused.
It’s a solution to the frequent complains about the unsatisfactory battery life of normal smartphones.
But the solution is so obnoxious it’s almost satirical (not that it’s a bad thing).
Here’s how the Energizer Power Max P18K looks beside your average smartphone.
The Energizer Power Max P18K is sensational alright. Avenir’s smartphone products slipped under the radar before, but this will be their turning point.
If this was a publicity stunt, it was very successful.
But maybe you’re actually considering making the switch.
Is carrying around this brick of a phone that’s the equivalent of 3 other phones really worth it?
Performance of the Energizer Power Max P550S
- included headset fares poorly
- mid and low-frequency sound reproduction of the integrated speaker found wanting
- screen colour reproduction suffers some
- comes with a clean Android interface without any preinstalled apps

For the want of more information, we can only speculate if the Energizer Power Max P18K is any better (or worse).
But based on the information thus far, do you think this is the phone for you?
Now, of course it goes to say that it’s technically not sold in Singapore. But if it is, would you buy it?
