Ah Hock: Can you believe how long it’s taking us to get out of the CTE?

Ali: Ya man, there’s nothing worse than having an Evergreen on a Monday morning.

While the expression used by Ali makes no sense to you right now, you might soon hear it on the streets of Singapore and other countries as well.

On Tuesday (23 March), the Ever Given, one of the world’s largest container ships, ran aground in the Suez Canal.

Since the authorities have failed to dislodge it, the large ship has caused massive congestion in the waterway, with transit in both directions blocked.

Now, thanks to an accident on a Chinese expressway, the word Evergreen may soon become synonymous with massive traffic jam.

An image of a congested road in China is going viral on social media for its resemblance to the Ever Given in the Suez Canal.

On Saturday, this photo was uploaded to social media, and everyone lost their minds:

According to Taiwan English Newsthe truck crashed and caused a traffic jam on an expressway on Saturday morning.

On most days, this would elicit nothing more than a wah, that’s a bad jam from netizens.

But many people noticed how similar it looked to images of the Ever Given in the Suez Canal.

Here are some of the similarities in the two pictures:

  • both have the name “EVERGREEN” on their side
  • after their mishaps, both vehicles came to a stop at an approximately 45° angle.
  • both caused massive traffic congestion

But it gets even weirder.

Ship & Truck Carrying Containers From Different Companies

For those wondering why the Ever Given ship has “EVERGREEN” on its side, that’s because Evergreen Marine Corp. – a Taiwanese shipping company – is currently leasing the Ever Given.

Evergreen Marine Corp. is one of five shipping companies under the trading name Evergreen Line.

But Evergreen Line said it does not operate a trailer business in Mainland China as they’re only responsible for marine transportation services.

This means that the shipping companies under Evergreen Line have nothing to do with the accident involving the truck on the highway.

So, for now, we don’t have an explanation for this uncanny resemblance.

What Happened in the Suez Canal?

On Tuesday, the Ever Given lost the ability to steer amid high winds and a dust storm in the Suez Canal, and got stuck in the waterway.

Since it’s blocking other vessels on the vital trade route, we may face some inconveniences such as products being unavailable or longer shipping times.

Consumer prices are also unlikely to rise much, however, as freight charges only make up a fraction of the price of goods.

Yesterday, the Suez Canal Authority announced that the stern had begun to move on Friday night, and that the rudder and propeller had started working again.

Unlike a regular traffic jam on the road, this Evergreen on the Suez Canal might take a while to clear up.
