But just as we’re trying to gather our breath, another revelation comes rolling into our path:

In a Weibo post yesterday (27 June), the actress wrote:

“We experience all sorts of farewells during the course of our lives. The warmth and love that we receive when we meet become a power that lasts us forever. I’m thankful for the sacrifices, support and love that you’ve given to me all this time (and) I’m thankful for the concern and love that you’ll give me in the future. We’re no longer ‘us’, but we’re still us.”

In response, Li Chen reposted Fan’s words, adding on:

“From friends to lovers to friends again. The kind of feelings that we have may change, but the pure feelings that we have for each other will never waver. The mutual trust and support that we have is something that will last forever. We’re no longer ‘us’, but we’re still us.

Fan Bingbing and Li Chen first went public with their relationship in May 2015, and subsequently announced their engagement in September 2017, on Fan’s 36th birthday. Li proposed to Fan at her birthday party.

Thereafter, Li had posted a photo of the proposal on Weibo, with the caption:

“Us, forever…”

In response, Fan had shared his post, saying:

“Forever and ever.”

High-profile day

On the same day, Descendants of the Sun star Song Joong Ki announced an impending divorce from his Dots co-star Song Hye Kyo, with a statement through his lawyer:

“Hello, this is Song Joong Ki,”

First of all, I apologize for bringing bad news to everyone who loves and cares about me.

I have arranged for my divorce with Song Hye Kyo.

We both hope to settle the divorce process in a smooth manner, rather than attack and blame each other.

Please understand that it is difficult to reveal the stories about our personal lives.

From now on, I will try my best as an actor to repay everyone with good works. Thank you.”

Speculations

Thereafter, speculations have arisen as to the cause of the divorce, and third parties were subsequently brought into the fray. Song Joong Ki was rumoured to have cheated with Song Hye Kyo’s best friend, her make-up artist, while Song Hye Kyo was believed to have had an affair with her Boyfriend co-star Park Bo Gum.

Park Bo Gum’s management agency has since denied the rumours, however.

“It seems that such rumours were fabricated as Song Hye-kyo and Park Bo Gum recently worked on a production together,” they said. “We are also in the process of discussing legal action against other rumours outside of the recent divorce rumours.”

And so… now what?

A couple of years back, we were all shocked beyond belief when our favourite Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie broke things off.

And just yesterday (27 June), that shock came back in droves, as we were exposed to not one high-profile breakup, but two.

And honestly, that really gets me thinking:

Does true love really exist in this world?

Just as I’m about to shake my head, however, I stumble upon pictures like these:

And I go, yeah, true love does exist.

It just doesn’t apply to every single relationship in this world.
