Since the ancient times, we’ve been travelling to the age-old Jurong Bird Park on shuttle buses… with rather annoying classmates in tow.
“HEY, HEY DID YOU HEAR? WE’RE TRAVELLING TO JURONG BIRD PARK!” yelled Alexis Francis the Fifth. “I’M SO EXCITED!”
“Shut your trap, Nincompoop the Filth!” shouted another. “Yo momma so hot that when she jumped into the oven, the oven overheated!”
“NOONE TALKS ABOUT MY MUM, YOU PRICK.”
“WHAT’RE YOU GONNA DO, HUH? LATHER ME WITH YOUR ROYAL FASHION OF SINGLISH?
And then they’ll start fighting and it’ll be a rather fruitful trip to the classic Jurong Bird Park.
Ah, sweet sweet memories.
Alas, however, their time is soon coming to an end… with a whole new moniker and location due to be incorporated in 2020:
Mandai Bird Park, in Mandai.
The Jurong Bird Park of old?
It’s destined to be no more.
Everything About Jurong Bird Park’s Move To Mandai To Be Neighbours With Other Animals in 2020
The gut-wrenching move was first announced in 2016.
In 2020, Jurong Bird Park will be moving to the Mandai area, where they will join 4 other Mandai reserves (by 2022).
They will join the Rainforest Park, Mandai Zoo, Night Safari and River Safari to become a mega 5-in-1 nature reserve.
And… What Does That Mean For The Bird Park, Exactly?
Well, for one, Jurong Bird Park will be no more.
Instead, Mandai Bird Park will be their new calling.
And for seconds, the move will mean the relocation of a cool 5,000 animal residents.
With some flying en route, just for your information.
According to staff members, the relocation effort’s expected to take around 3 months.
Can We Still Say Our Last Goodbyes?
Well, worry not my friends, because you still have a ton of time to pay your respects to the soon-to-be late Jurong Bird Park. This is because the bird park will operate as per usual while the move’s being carried out.
Efforts to relocate the birds are believed to be already underway, though a launch site for the new site has yet to be announced.
Once the move’s complete, the premises will reportedly be “returned to the Government” for redevelopment.
Meanwhile, for our feathered friends, a spacious 17-hectare forest will be designated to brand new “exhibits” for the birds.
Singapore’s new Bird Park will reportedly also boast “naturalistic habitats”, with enough space to accommodate interactive habits where… get this:
The birds are permitted to roam freely.
Well, I suppose that only means one thing:
It’s time to prep caps because it’s surely gonna “rain” out there.
And So… Now What?
If you fancy yourself as an ardent follower of Jurong Bird Park’s greatest exploits, you can always head down at your own discretion to pay your ‘last respects’.
