Everything About the Boon Lay Fire That Injured 6 and Evacuated 100

Is Singapore too hot nowadays?

Step outside during the day and I’m sure we’d all agree.

Perhaps a little too hot, seeing as another fire broke out in Boon Lay.

Not to make light of the situation, but it is quite a phenomenon seeing as how there was a massive fire in Ang Mo Kio only a little over a week ago.

While this one appears to be smaller in size, fires should never be taken lightly.

100 Residents Evacuated From Block 191 Boon Lay Drive

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was reported to have responded to the fire at 10:15 pm last night (15 July).

The fire broke out at a unit on the fourth floor of an HDB block 191 along Boon Lay Drive.

According to social media posts, it wasn’t a small fire and several households had to be evacuated.

In total, 100 residents were evacuated from the building while SCDF personnel entered the flat to put out the fire.

Six People Injured But No Casualties.

The fire was put out with one water jet, preventing it from spreading to the entire building.

Good job, SCDF. Salute.

Five men and one woman were sent to Ng Teng Fong Hospital. Thankfully, there appeared to have been no casualties.

Footage Started Appearing Online

Posts were then shared onto various social media platforms with footage and photos of the fire.

SCDF is still currently investigating the cause.

Meanwhile, be sure to practice fire safety

Here are a few easy tips to follow to ensure a cooler, safer environment for us all.

  • Make sure your electric appliances are working properly and replace any with faulty wiring or damaged insulation.
  • Do not overload your electrical outlets
  • Don’t charge devices overnight as it may cause the device to overheat
  • Do not leave the stove unattended while cooking
  • Make sure the gas knob on your stove is turned off
  • Declutter your house like Marie Kondo
  • Have a small fire extinguisher on hand
  • Do not leave your e-scooter charging unattended.

Yes, I get that the last point is like a repeat of the third point, but hey, e-scooter fires are dangerous, and they’ve been happening pretty often over the past year.

Better be safe than sorry, right?
