We all have a love-hate relationship with the MRT in Singapore.
We love it because it gets us to where we want to go. And with each new line, it gets better. However, it has been frustrating for both SMRT and Singaporeans as the train has been experiencing frequent breakdowns.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is working together with SMRT to improve the tracks and the train so as to ensure a smoother ride for commuters.

Upgrading has been done in parts all over Singapore. On Sunday, the LTA announced that 7 East-West line stations would be closing earlier on Fridays and Saturdays in the month of June.
So before you plan a late night, do factor in the train timings!
The ScheduleÂ

According to the schedule, the MRT is set to end services at 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The affected stations will be Lavender, Kallang, Aljunied, Paya Laber, Eunos, Kembangan and Bedok.
Alternative routes
Shuttle busÂ
Thankfully, there will be shuttle buses available for those who still need public transport home (Grab is expensive!).
The shuttle bus is called shuttle 6 and will run from Bugis to Tanah Marah and from Tanah Merah to Bugis.
The pickup point for each station is listed below.
The first bus from Tanah Merah is at 11.05 p.m. and the last bus is at 12.24 a.m.
The first bus from Bugis will be at 11.22 p.m. and the last bus will be at 12.30 a.m.
The frequency of the buses will be from 3-5 minutes. So you do not have to worry about having to wait for super long just for the bus to come.

If you are taking the last bus to Bugis, do take note that the last train may not be concurrent with the last bus. So you have to be prepared for that!

Normal bus service

SMRT has also kindly provided a map with the buses that one can take instead of taking the MRT. These routes are coloured purple.
Gracious SingaporeansÂ
While it is really inconvenient that the trains breakdown from time to time, it is good to remember that they have been serving us just fine all these years. Wear and tear are bound to happen. We are blessed that this has only started now.
Since SMRT and LTA are doing their best to remedy the situation and even providing alternative routes for us, as Singaporeans, we can be gracious and not complain so much.
The improvement works will be completed soon and we can look forward to the Thompson-East coastline too!
