As usual ‘chicken rice’ patrons would surely attest to, Geylang has a slight tendency to heat up, especially during night time.
But even by its usual standards, Geylang felt hot yesterday night. Like really hot. And lest you’re wondering why…
It’s because a massive fire had engulfed two entire shophouses in Geylang Lorong 14, late last night (19 June).

Everything About the Massive Geylang Fire That Happened Yesterday Night
Think you know everything about the massive Geylang fire that happened yesterday night?
Well, let’s put it to the test.
According to TODAYonline, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was first notified about the fire at 8:35 p.m., and subsequently sent 12 emergency vehicles and around 70 firefighters to the scene.
“At the height of the operations, 3 handheld jets and an aerial monitor were utilised to mitigate the fire,” said the SCDF.

The fire was eventually extinguished after nearly 3 hours of firefighting operations.
In a Facebook update at 10:43 p.m., the SCDF stated that there were no reported injuries from the fire, which includes contents of “two shophouses at number 67 and 69” at Geylang Lorong 14.
Blazing through
Should you be interested to see just how intense the fire last night was, I think you’ll find Facebook user Ziauar Rahaman’s latest post a tad bit intriguing.

Netizens applaud the firefighters’ efforts
Usually, Netizens turn up on social media pages for three reasons:
- Someone did wrong and they’re here to dish out justice, on their keyboards
- Someone just posted an offer/giveaway and they’re here to get their value’s worth, on their keyboards
- Someone did a positive thing and they’re here to offer some grudging compliments (as well as room for improvement), on their keyboards
But rarely, very rarely, you get someone doing a positive thing, and Netizens turning up to offer compliments. No holds barred.

Like this case, for example.
Full of praise for our Firefighters, Netizens were generous in heaping out positive feedback…
And one even appraised the nation’s use of its taxpayers’ money.
A novelty I’m sure; I don’t recall seeing it before.
But anyway, my heartfelt kudos to the firefighters who gave their all last night.
Rest well, and thank you for being one of the core reasons why we can sleep so peacefully at night.
