“Everything About The ‘Top UK Uni’ Undergrad Who Filmed Women In Toilet; Allowed To Leave SG For Studies

It does sound familiar right (note the words that were BOLDED)? I just can’t put my finger on it…

But honestly, with the recent rise of news of this nature- take for example the most recent one where a student was charged for taking upskirt videos and filming them showering in Yale-NUS College, I’m no longer surprised.

Man Accused Of Filming Woman In Toilets

The 22-year-old who cannot be named due to gag orders from court, is accused of filming a woman showering and another woman relieving herself in a toilet.

It first took place on 2 December 2015, when he allegedly placed a video-recording device in a toilet of a room in Orchard Hotel and filmed a woman as she was taking a shower.

He probably enjoyed the thrill and adrenaline of it- so much that he committed the same offence a second time a year later on 23 December 2016.

He had allegedly placed a recording device in a toilet of an apartment in the eastern part of Singapore and filmed another woman relieving herself.

Applied For Permission To Leave Singapore To Go Back To Studying In The UK

The offender is a student at a “top university in the United Kingdom”.

He has applied for permission on 2 October 2019 to leave the country to continue his studies at the top university.

The Straits Times reported that the court heard he started his studies there on 7 October last year and will begin his second year of study on 13 October 2019.

Permission Was Granted For Him To Leave

He needed to return to the UK to resume his studies and move into his residence in the UK.

The accused’s defence lawyer, Kalidass Murugaiyan told the court that his client was not a flight risk when applying for permission.

Murugaiyan explained that he has his roots in Singapore.

His client also had no criminal record before this and was cooperative with the authorities.

Hence, permission was granted by District Judge Adam Nakhoda for him to leave Singapore.

The Terms And Conditions

Before you think he was just let go without any extreme repercussions, like someone we know, he wasn’t.

Well…not yet.

He was granted permission by the court to leave the country, with a bail of $20,000.

As part of the conditions, he must provide his complete travel itinerary to the investigating officer overseeing his case before leaving Singapore.

In addition, full details of his residence and contact numbers are to be given as well. The student is expected to remain contactable to the investigating officer.

And once he has returned to Singapore, he has to surrender his passport to the authorities within 24 hours of his return.

So if you’re thinking of committing a crime before you leave to study overseas, think again.

Next Court Hearing

The accused will have his next court hearing on 11 December 2019 where he will reportedly face additional charges.

If convicted, he may be jailed for up to one year, fined, or both.

Let’s hope he receives the punishment that he deserves, unless he has a really high GPA of course.
