Lest you’re unaware, an immersive exhibition featuring the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew is taking place from 10 to 24 September 2023, and it’s lit.
Titled Now Is Not The Time, the art experience honours Mr. Lee’s legacy through a medley of entertaining aspects, including music, augmented reality, generative art and more.
Now is Not The Time: Everything About the Lee Kuan Yew Immersive Exhibition That’s Free to Visit
In celebration of Mr Lee’s 100th birthday, we’re being treated to a free exhibition that revolves around the legacy of modern Singapore’s founding father.
Touted as a first-of-its-kind project, the immersive spectacle reportedly took five months and around 200 multinational talents to complete, including American artist Daniel Arsham, production house Refinery Media, accolade-winning composer Tay Chee Wei and students from Lasalle and Nanyang Polytechnic. Apart from technology, the aspects of art and storytelling have also been drafted in to create an exhibition for all ages and races.
Yes, even those with an extremely short attention span will be intrigued, but more on that later.
As for the unique title, you guessed it. Though Singapore has experienced rapid growth over the last decade, we should not be getting comfortable just yet. Hence, the notion of now is not the time.
The exhibition reportedly takes up around 40,000 sq ft in Pasir Panjang. Visitors are expected to take around 30-45 minutes to finish a tour of the premises.
The project is also backed by a number of notable organisations, such as DBS Bank, Mapletree Investments and more.
Features
Visitors can expect highlights such as dramatic versions of Mr Lee’s most inspirational speeches, abstract art installations and a Mirror Maze concept done by Nanyang Polytechnic.
There’s also a sculpture of that iconic moment back in 1965, when Mr Lee, overcome by emotions, unveiled Singapore’s separation from Malaysia.
Visitors can expect to see augmented reality stations and immersive art pieces as well.
The exhibition certainly serves to connect the past, present and the future. As the founder of X3D (the creative studio that organised and produced the event) has stated, it’s their way of “connecting Singapore’s younger generation with the past so that they fully appreciate what it took to build this safe and prosperous country.”
Multi-sensorial and interactive in nature, this exhibition would appeal to anyone, regardless of whether they wish to walk down memory lane or just learn more about the phenomenal figure that was Lee Kuan Yew.
They have also made sure to avoid cramming in too much information, so those with a self-professed “short attention span” would still find themselves entertained.
Details
The event lasts until 24 September 2023 and runs from 11 am to 8 pm. It is situated at 25 Pasir Panjang Road, right opposite Mapletree Business City.
Though admission is free, visitors are required to register beforehand at www.nowisnotthetime.sg. Visitors are also required to be at least 13 years of age.
