While our moms might prefer the wet market because it’s what they’re used to, and it’s cheaper in comparison, young people today prefer to shop for their daily necessities and groceries at places like FairPrice.
After all, you’re paying a little bit extra for the comfort of shopping in an air-conditioned area.
Plus, it’s guaranteed that there won’t be any toxic food on the shelves.
After all, their branding is what allows them to eke out an edge over traditional wet markets.
Up Until Now, That Is
But let’s face it.
No matter how good or SOP-focused a business is, accidents do happen from time to time.
Like what happened on 10 Feb 2019.
A FairPrice shopper came across a range of Cadbury products on discount while shopping at Jurong Point FairPrice Xtra.
They were on sale, so she wanted to get some of that for herself.
Thankfully (for her and FairPrice), the savvy shopper actually took the time to inspect the products before making any purchases.
And she realised something strange immediately.
More Than A Few Products Had Passed Their Expiry Dates
It’s not just one specific product out of the entire Cadbury range. it’s a couple of them.
Some of them expired just a couple of days ago.
But one expired back in Dec 2018.
Products Were Left on Shelf The Next Day
Leaving the supermarket, the netizen decided to go back to the same supermarket the very next day.
She did not inform anyone from FairPrice about her ‘find’.
The following night, she saw that the products were still being displayed on the shelves.
She ended off with telling fellow netizens to always read the products’ label and details before making any purchases.
No matter how much you trust the brand.
FairPrice Responded Immediately
The moment FairPrice were alerted to the issue, they withdrew the Cadbury products from shelves immediately.
It was explained that the range of Cadbury chocolates was selling at FairPrice on a “promotional basis”, and they’ve stopped selling them at FairPrice Xtra @ Jurong Point since late last year.
However, they were still stocked at the FairPrice store located in at the FairPrice outlet located at B1 within the same shopping mall.
It was added that FairPrice remains committed to food safety and quality standards, and they apologise for the incident.
The staff at the particular FairPrice outlet has been counselled.
Inform FairPrice If You See Anything Wrong Next Time
There are two reasons why people trust FairPrice when it comes to food safety and quality assurance.
One, they made sure that the supply chain they’ve partnered with providing them with clean, healthy food and products for Singaporeans.
And two, if anything were to crop up, they’ll immediately act to rectify the problem. And since they’re a social enterprise, their number-one mission is to ensure that Singaporeans get the best daily necessities they need to live their lives in Singapore, not profit.
