By now, you would have known that COVID-19 has taken the world by storm and as of now, more than 100,000 people in the world have been infected with it.

While the bulk of people infected comes from China, more countries are reporting spikes in the number of cases that they have in their own countries. South Korea just reported an additional 174 cases, bringing its national tally to 6,767 at the time of writing.

Singapore also had an additional 13 cases reported yesterday, with 9 of them being linked to the Safra Jurong cluster. This cluster is now considered the second-largest one in Singapore.

But that’s not all.

Part of S’pore Facebook Office in Marina One Closes as a Staff Member Was Diagnosed with COVID-19

According to a Facebook representative, a staff member working at the Facebook office in Marina One has tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.

As such, Facebook is shutting its London office and part of the Singapore Marina One office for “deep cleaning”.

The representative said in an emailed statement, “We have immediately closed the affected areas for deep cleaning and advised employees based in the affected area to work from home until 13 March.”

Since the staff member had also gone over to Facebook’s London offices between 24 and 26 February, the representative said, “We are therefore closing our London offices until Monday for deep cleaning and employees are working from home until then.”

Facebook has also said that it is now trying to contact all the individuals who had direct contact with the infected employee, and has asked them all to isolate themselves and look out for any potential symptoms.

Measures Taken By Facebook

The Facebook Shanghai office has already been closed until further notice, staff members in Italy and South Korea have been encouraged to work from home instead to reduce the chances of the spread of COVID-19.

Staff members in the San Francisco Bay area have also been “strongly recommended” to stay home to work starting from Friday.

With more than 100,000 people infected worldwide and more than 3,400 dead from the virus, we must not be complacent and should all do our part to be socially responsible to prevent the spread of this highly contagious virus.
