Singaporeans are always on the hunt for good deals, especially as food prices continue to rise in recent days.
For Hari Raya recently, FairPrice Group (FPG) trucked in three tons of tiger prawns that were sold at half price at selected outlets.
That’s not all the organisation has done—FPG is now offering a 50% discount for NTUC members on selected essential items at all FairPrice supermarket formats.
50% Off Essential Items
In an effort to help ease the impacts of the rising cost of living, FPG will be offering a special weekly promotion to NTUC Union and Link members, starting from 27 April.
The promotion, a 50% discount off selected essential items, will last four weeks. It’s available at all FairPrice supermarket formats, even FairPrice online, so you can enjoy the deal even when you shop from the comfort of your home.
For the first week (27 April to 1 May), NTUC members will enjoy a 50% discount on two of FairPrice’s most popular rice types—10kg of Golden Phoenix Thai Hom Mali Rice will now be sold at $13.45 (originally $26.90) and 5kg of FairPrice Homebrand Golden Royal Dragon Thai White Fragrance Rice will be sold at $5.90 (originally $11.80).
This aligns with FPG’s goals of keeping rice accessible at reasonable prices, which they’ve been aiming to do since the organisation was founded in 1973.
50 cent Kopi
The popular 50-cent kopi and teh promotions will return to Kopitiam for NTUC Union members to mark May Day.
This promotion will last for the whole month of May, 1 May to 31 May.
Usually, the kopi and teh there are priced at 90 cents—owing to their lower price, over 2.7 million cups of the drinks were sold in 2022 alone.
Additionally, the Rice Garden programme has also been expanded from 19 stalls to 40 stalls. Under the programme, people can enjoy concessionary meals at lower prices.
Comcare cardholders can purchase a meal at $1.50, while Pioneer Generation (PG), Merdeka Generation (MG), and Union members enjoy meals priced at $2.50.
Union members can download the FPG app to enjoy a promotion—from May to July, members will be given a $2 E-voucher upon making a transaction for the first time on the app, in-store, or at a Kopitiam.

Dedicated To Ensuring Accessibility
It’s common knowledge that the cost of living is rising in Singapore, especially amidst high core inflation rates recently.
In light of this, FPG hopes to help mitigate this by offering discounts on essential items like rice, which remains a staple in Singaporean households.
“FPG believes that every cent counts and will continue to actively ensure that we strengthen our commitment towards our social mission to moderate the cost of living in Singapore,” said the chief executive officer of FPG, Mr Vipul Chawla.
Under their “Greater Value Every Day” initiative, FPG aims to help shoppers save more—last year, special discounts of up to 15% were provided for essential items too, like eggs, oil, and rice.
In 2022, FPG’s Evergreen value programmes were estimated to have provided $11.5 million in savings. The programme, which offers weekly discounts to PG, MG, seniors and CHAS Blue members, will continue into 2023.
According to Ng Chee Meng, Secretary General of NTUC, FPG’s efforts are set to provide savings of up to $2 million, helping Singaporeans ease the financial burden of daily expenses.
“I’m heartened that FairPrice has remained steadfast in offering ongoing support for seniors such as the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation and those who are more financially vulnerable among us, including CHAS blue cardholders,” he said. “Taken together, I believe that these measures are meaningful and go some way in helping the Singaporean worker manage their family’s day-to-day expenses”.
