A 2-year-old girl had to be conveyed to the hospital after her head was allegedly struck by a falling metal hook in a Sengkang playground.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
Falling Metal Hook Hits 2-Year-Old in Sengkang Playground
On Tuesday (24 December), a woman brought her three children out along with their helper. The group of five headed to the playground between Blocks 172D and 173A at Sengkang East Drive.
However, little did they know that their fun day out at the playground wouldn’t have a very “fun” ending.
The group of five arrived at the playground at around 10 am, and were the only ones in the playground at the time. One hour later, at about 11 am, they decided to leave the playground and head home.
Just as the woman, Huang Yixin (hanyu pinyin), was picking her two-year-old daughter up into her arms, she suddenly heard the sound of metal falling.
When she turned her head, she saw the worst scene imaginable. Her two-year-old daughter in her arms was bleeding profusely and crying loudly.
Not too far away, Huang spotted a metal hook on the ground. Presumably, this metal hook was responsible for the “metal falling sound” she heard earlier, and for her daughter’s sudden injuries.
Two-Year-Old Suffered Deep Gash in Head
According to Shin Min Daily News, Huang then called an ambulance, and her two-year-old daughter was conveyed to the hospital.
At the hospital, the doctor told Huang that while the gash in the two-year-old’s head wasn’t large, it was deep.
Fortunately, however, the two-year-old did not require stitches. She was subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Regardless, Huang was instructed by the doctor to observe the two-year-old for the following 24 hours for any symptoms such as puking or dizziness.
Huang shares that while her two-year-old is currently doing fine, the family won’t be heading back to the playground again in the future.
If you ever see a bad Google review on the Sengkang East Drive playground, you know why lah.
Unclear Where the Metal Hook Fell From
But the million-dollar question is this: where exactly did the metal hook even come from?
Huang shared that during the incident, after she noticed the metal hook on the ground, she looked up to see where the metal hook had come from. However, she didn’t notice anyone in the vicinity.
So, it’s unclear where exactly the metal hook came from.
It could have been thrown out from the surrounding HDB blocks — we don’t know for sure. The only thing we do know for now is that the metal hook spotted by Huang was approximately 10 cm long.
Well, we don’t know about you, but that metal hook doesn’t exactly look like a common item that an ordinary Singaporean household would have.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
So, what do you think the metal hook is used for, and where did it come from?
