Fang Tai (方太), the OG Celebrity Cook in the 80s & 90s, Reappears on Social Media

You might have heard of the phrase: “Reject modernity, embrace tradition”.

We usually won’t take a stand on this, but Goody Feed supports it when it comes to Fang Tai (方太), the OG celebrity cook from the 80s and 90s.

Enough with Gordon Ramsey and his idiot sandwiches; the real celebrity cook, Fang Tai, is back!

Fang Tai (方太) Reappears on Social Media After Months Without Updates

The OG celebrity cook, Mrs Lisa Fong, more popularly known as Fang Tai, has reappeared on social media.

On Friday (9 June), netizens were surprised when they opened Facebook to see photos of 88-year-old Fang Tai with her daughter, Bao.

It warms our hearts to see how brightly the 88-year-old is smiling.

88, but always young at heart.

The Facebook post was captioned: “I went to Korean barbecue with Fang Tai tonight and actually forgot to take a photo first”. Presumably, the post was made by Fang Tai’s daughter.

For the Gen Zs reading this, Fang Tai was the Gordon Ramsey of the 80s and the 90s. Ever had your parents try to hide a secret recipe from you? They probably took the recipe from Fang Tai.

In fact, they probably learnt how to cook entirely from Fang Tai.

Here’s a video of the OG celebrity cook making taro cake in the 80s:

See, nice and calm—no “idiot sandwiches” or other forms of unintelligible shouting.

The last time we saw a picture of the OG celebrity chef herself on her Facebook page was in November last year when she ate with her daughter at Hong Kong’s Central Market.

The mother-daughter pair can’t get any cuter than this.

Fang Tai Currently Living in Hong Kong, Desires to Return to Singapore to Film Another Cooking Show

We have better news for those of you excited about Fang Tai reappearing on social media.

Although the 88-year-old is currently staying in Hong Kong with her daughter Bao, she has expressed her desire to return to Singapore to film another cooking show.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, although Fang Tai is in Hong Kong, she’s still whipping up delicious household dishes in her own time, sometimes even teaching her recipes to her domestic helpers.

You can take the chef out of the cooking show, but you can’t take the cooking show out of the chef.

The celebrity chef had initially planned to return to Singapore in 2020 but didn’t due to COVID-19.

Well, now that COVID-19 measures have eased, maybe Fang Tai will come back and start her cooking show again.

If she returns, she should consider returning within the next few months to run for President. She fulfils most of the requirements anyway—Singaporean, way above 45 years old, good reputation, blah blah…

We’re sure she’ll receive as much support as SM Tharman.

Regardless, until Fang Tai returns to Singapore, all we can do is try to get a taste of nostalgia by whipping up some of her recipes.

You can check out her Facebook page here, where her daughter posts several of Fang Tai’s recipes so you can cook good food too.
