Fans Impressed with Dasmond Koh Who Went for 2 Hosting Obligations During Aloysius‘ Wake Yesterday

In the movie Star Trek Generations, Lieutenant Commander Data, an android (a real robot, not the smartphone OS) has just installed a chip that allows him to experience emotions for the first time.

During an away mission, his emotions got the better of him that led to his best friend’s capture by a villain.

When he’s back in the starship doing his work, he succumbed to the guilt and requested to be relieved of duty as he could not overcome the overwhelming emotions.

His captain rejected his request, saying this: “Part of having feelings is learning to integrate them into your life, Data. Learning to live with them. No matter what the circumstances… Sometimes it takes courage to try, Data. Courage can be an emotion too.”

To which Data continued to work while his emotions consumed him, but managed to complete the work professionally.

It’s a movie, but in reality, Dasmond Koh has exhibited the same courage that Data had, because despite Aloysius Pang’s passing, he fulfilled his hosting obligations during the late actor’s wake.

Here’s what happened.

Aloysius Pang’s Wake

Aloysius Pang’s wake occurred from yesterday (26 January 2019) to today noon. It drew a large crowd, with fans and the public coming in droves to pay their last respects to the late Singaporean son.

Celebrities, politicians and other public figures were also spotted, and many were seen crying.

Dasmond Koh, who manages Aloysius Pang and has a close relationship with him, is often seen as one of the people who’s hit the hardest: in various interviews before and after Aloysius’ demise, he’s often choked on his emotions.

In fact, in one interview, he lost control and angrily refused to answer a question, but apologised immediately for his outburst (skip to 11:54).

Suffice to say, he’s one of the most grief-stricken people and it’s understandable so: he has been managing Aloysius since 2011.

And when Aloysius wins any award, he would definitely thank his mentor (skip to 1:44).

But unfortunately, Dasmond, who started out as a YES 933 DJ before moving into the small screen and finally into business, has got hosting obligations on 26 January 2019, the day of Aloysius’ wake.

You’d have thought that he won’t have the strength, both emotionally and physically, to go on: in fact, I’m pretty sure the producers won’t have dared to allow him to be on stage for he might let his emotions take over.

But the professionalism in Dasmond Koh won, and it won fans as well.

Went for Two Hosting Gigs

According to netizens, they were shocked to see Dasmond Koh hosting an event at Yew Tee Point in the afternoon.

In Yew Tee Point’s website, it’s revealed that it’s a donation drive, and the reason why they can’t just change the host?

Dasmond Koh is specifically invited to the event for “an afternoon of fun and games.”

You can’t, well, just change the only VIP who’s coming, right?

In fact, he’s also scheduled to be attending the same event today (27 January 2019) at Bedok Point from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

But it’s what he did yesterday night that earned even more respect.

Live Show for Sheng Siong

For people who’ve stopped watching television, you’d have remembered 赢万金游万里 or 普威之夜, the live show every Saturday night whereby the hosts would call a lucky winner near the end of the show.

It’s also the show that overseas celebrities would be invited to since it could well be the only live show in Singapore.

Lest you’re not aware, it’s now sponsored by Sheng Siong and is called The Sheng Siong Show.

It’s no longer hosted by Chen Shucheng and Kym Ng, but by Dasmond Koh and Kym Ng.

People would have thought that during this mourning period, Dasmond would not be hosting it and would let Kym Ng host it herself, or at least bring in someone to co-host with Kym.

But no: Dasmond Koh still hosted it professionally, smiling and talking as if nothing has gone on simply because that’s his job: to bring entertainment to others.

Needlessly to say, netizens were impressed.

And the man, after a day of hosting commitments, went back to Aloysius’ wake, still trying to force a smile (don’t need lah, Dasmond, we understand!).

If there’s one thing we can learn from this incident, it’s this:

Stop thinking that it’s easy to be a celebrity. To be void of all emotions and joke in front of a camera is more difficult than forcing a tear out.
