Farting a Lot? You’re Not Losing Weight. Myth That ‘1 Fart Can Burn 67 Calories’ Isn’t True

Last Updated on 2023-03-28 , 2:03 pm

Sometime back, there was this theory that you can lose calories by letting out farts. For each stinky gas bomb you let out into the world, you’d be paid in kind by unleashing 67 calories from your body.

Seriously, if it were true, personal trainers would probably be giving fart sessions to their clients. And probably stink up the entire gym at the same time.

Imagine another thing – fart yoga. Ok, that’s probably pushing it, but you have to admit a class of farts would be insanely funny!

Well, Google’s answer that a fart burns 67 calories isn’t actually true after all. Here’s what you should’ve known too.

How The Story Came About

Back in 2015, netizens came across an intriguing answer from Google. According to their Google search answer on whether farts can burn calories, this was their answer:

The search engine got their info from a Facebook page called “F A C T”. The page didn’t give any supporting reasoning or evidence to back up its fart-blazing theory.

In fact, “F A C T” pointed their fingers back at Google. This is what its quote said, “Google is your friend if you think these facts are false”.

Wah, crazy la. Who to believe?

But “F A C T” didn’t just get its answer without some “research”.

Rumours about one fart burning 67 calories have been around before 2015 – 2009, to be exact. It was an answer supplied by an online troll to a question on a website called ChaCha.

So yep, no study or research to back this myth up once again.

Sigh, people so desperately wanna lose weight nowadays that they are willing to resort to anything, even farts.

What Does a Fart Actually Do Then?

You don’t really burn calories (numbers that would really count towards losing weight at least! ) when you fart.

Okay, maybe 0.1 calories, since breathing requires calories as well, but you get the idea: it won’t go all the way to 67 calories.

What really happens when you fart is this your muscles relax within, and your body does the good deed of expelling the gas in your bowels by way of the gas pressure there.

Yup, and nothing else. Sorry to burst the bubble for you, but that’s the actual fact.

The Best Way to Burn Calories?

There’s only one solid way of burning calories – taking care of yourself.

And we mean it the way youve heard many, many times before exercising, eating clean, getting proper rest, and controlling your stress levels.

If you want to lose weight the right way, there are no shortcuts. No, 52 farts wont cut it. Its all a tall tale thats not going to get you anywhere.

So, get yourself a pair of running shoes and start going in circles around your apartment. Go to ntuc fairprice and get all the fruits and veggies you need that are low in calories and great for weight loss.
