I never thought this day would come.
Eating healthy with Goody Feedโs #FastFoodFriday.
What? I know Iโve been calling for #FreshFruitFridays, but is this the day #FriedChickenFridays finally be abolished?
Are Fridays now #FitFoodFridays?
Is thisโฆ the way I start my healthy lifestyle by finally reviewing things like The Daily Cut? or perhaps VeganBurg?
Well no, itโs still Macs.
McDonaldโs Grilled Chicken Sandwich & Emoji Pโบ๏ธtato
And really, itโs not that healthy when we examine it.
The entire set costs S$8.20, though we ordered from McDelivery which is S$8.70. Drinks arenโt not pictured here. Sandwich itself would be S$6.20 ala carte.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich
Opening the package, the sandwich looks solid. Even though itโs tucked under the buns, we can see everything that was promised:
Thick, tender and juicy chicken patty, beautifully paired with delicious chicken bacon, cheddar cheese, and crisp lettuce topped with a mouth-watering chargrill sauce; all perfectly tucked between hearty semolina buns
Opening up the sandwich shows that the construction of the sandwich is quite impressive.
A few criticisms, though:
- Not enough cheese (though we know thereโs no such thing as too much cheese, so this is an impossible improvement)
- Chicken isnโt really โthickโ
- โChargrill sauceโ is clearly just mayonnaise and black pepper?
So hereโs the good news: everything else looked good for the sandwich. Good meat:bun ratio and sufficient fillings.
Right off the bat, things are looking good for the sandwich.
Of course, nothing really matters if it doesnโt taste good.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Taste Test
Guys.
This is the first time I feel like Iโm not scammed by a McDonaldโs new menu item.
A cause for celebration by itself.
The chicken is very lightly spicy, a little ticklish to the tongue, but it is by no means spicy.
Itโs marinated and packed with flavour, kind of like the grilled non-spicy version of McSpicy which doesnโt even give you laosai.
How do you learn such power?
Then you add the chicken bacon, which adds some saltiness to it, and the light grilled smokey flavour, the slight funk of the cheese, the crunch from the lettuce.
It achieved something I never thought possible from fast food sandwiches.
Balance.
But despite all the good, it never reached mouth-plosion.
The chicken bacon isnโt crispy, the chargrill sauce (aka mayonnaise black pepper) seems to be a little lacking, and the cheese isnโt cheesy or substantial enough.
Itโs an adequate sandwich thatโs a satisfying meal by itself, but not exactly something to call friends and family over to party.
Still a good sandwich though!

Emoji Pโบ๏ธtato
I mean, letโs be honest. This might be even more exciting just because of the emoji.
So hereโs the first question: What kind of emoji do they have?
We have the standard ๐, ๐, ๐, flower, and some kind of weird mask thing with heart shapes for eyes.
It would appear that the smiley selection is random, and this is probably not all of the available ones.
Emoji Pโบ๏ธtato: Taste Test
At first, I thought this would be like fries. Crispy on the outside, with a little potato on the inside.
The surprise was, although the outside texture was indeed crispy, it wasnโt quite like the fries kind of thin layer. It felt like it was an additional batter added, and is thicker than usual.
And itโs thick. Texture is totally different from a fry. The inside is more like mashed potato, and rather doughy.
While fried mashed potatoes sound like a deliciously good idea, in practice this emoji potato was just too dry. A sauce or something is desperately needed.
Itโs like mashed potatoes without butter and just a little sad.

But just for fun, I went flipped the back of the packaging and noticed this:
McCain Food Limited. So I had the idea if this emoji could be bought separately.
And it might be possible.
Woah, so those are the range of emojis that I didnโt get? Thatโs more interesting than the food itself.
Checking their website it appears that they even sell a Cheddar Cheese flavoured one.
But I havenโt quite figured out if they can be shipped to Singapore.
Searching further, it would appear that their Smileys was also once discontinued and had a petition to bring it back.
And really, whereโs the sauce?
