Malaysian actor Shaun Chen’s father died in a hit-and-run accident in Malaysia on 28 Mar 2025.

The 46-year-old Emerald Hill (2025) star shared the tragic news on Instagram, revealing his father was riding a motorcycle when a car hit him and fled the scene.

Fatal Collision Captured on Dashcam Footage

The collision happened around 10:35 AM when Chen’s father was riding in the middle of the lane.

Dashcam footage from a vehicle following behind captured the moment a car hit him from the right while attempting to overtake around a bend in the road.

The driver sped away, leaving Chen’s father lying motionless on the ground.

According to Chen, the dashcam belonged to an acquaintance who lives in the same kampung as his family.

This person, along with other kampung neighbours, rushed to help the victim.

Chen’s father was still alive when taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Doctors had declared him brain dead upon arrival.

Actor Returns to Malaysia for Father’s Wake Amid Outpouring of Support

Chen was on vacation in Bangkok with his family when the incident occurred.

During this time, tremors from an earthquake in Myanmar were felt across the Thai capital.

The actor, who is based in Johor Bahru with his wife and two daughters, has since returned to his hometown in Negeri Sembilan for his father’s wake and to handle affairs following the tragedy.

On 30 Mar 2025, Chen posted information about his father’s wake on Instagram.

The wake will run from 30 Mar till 1 Apr 2025, when the cortege will leave for the crematorium.

While the obituary states Chen’s father was 88 years old, the actor told Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao that his father was born in 1941 and died at 84.

Chen explained that his father had gone out to buy fruit for prayers for the first day of the lunar month (29 Mar 2025) when the accident happened.

In an emotional plea posted on Instagram on 28 Mar 2025, Chen called for the perpetrator to come forward, saying: “Selamat Hari Raya. I hope that you can say sorry to my daddy. He didn’t know you. I don’t know why you did that to him, I just want you to say sorry.”

He assured he “will not seek revenge.”

The actor later informed that police have arrested someone in connection with the hit-and-run.

Fellow Mediacorp actors have extended their condolences on Instagram.

Rebecca Lim commented, “I am so so so sorry.”

Elvin Ng wrote, “So sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences to you and your family.”

Jesseca Liu left a message saying, “Stay strong! My deepest condolences to you and family!”

Chantalle Ng called the accident “absolutely heartbreaking,” while Romeo Tan wrote, “This is really unacceptable!!! My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time. Stay strong Shaun!”
