FB Troll’s Complaint About A Man ‘Chilling’ in Army Uniform at McDonald’s Isn’t Her / His First Complaint

Some people really “kiam pah” one.

I don’t mean to advocate violence and I mean it figuratively – that she deserves some tongue-lashing.

One such person belongs to the name Veronica Chin, and some tongue-lashing did Chin get.

A man in uniform cannot be eating in McDonald’s

Yesterday (19 Feb 2019), Veronica Chin uploaded a post onto Facebook group Complaint Singapore.

In Chin’s crosshair was an innocuous gentleman eating his breakfast at McDonald’s, all fine and dandy, save for the fact that he was in an SAF Smart 4 uniform.

In the post, Chin-

  1. Disses the man for eating breakfast at 10AM.
  2. Conjectures if he was watching a movie or playing a game on his phone.
  3. Assumes that he has work or training to go back to and not that he may have just finished his shift and/or booked out (because SAF is only 9-5 and defence is like a daytime job only right? Enemies only attack in the morning and spare you sundown)
  4. Brings in the training halt and temp reduction (Really unnecessarily if you know what she/he was bringing it back to).
  5. Questioning if a man eating Macs for breakfast could be trusted with defending a country

For some reason or another, the post was taken down on the same day at around 3:30 PM, but was subsequently given a second life on no less than three other pages/sites including Helloあsia Singapore and HardwareZone.

With its second life, here comes some of the comments that came along:

And this is probably eat right? That’s he’s just a poor bloke who had just finished his shift or is about to begin one.

Not The First Time

According to Mothership that did a bit of digging around, this wasn’t the first time Chin had posted a complaint taking aim of men in uniform.

Chin had previously posted this back in 2018 in the same Facebook Group.

In it, Chin was being hyper-critical as well of the SAF and called for Mindef to “look into” the matter just as she “wondered” what Mindef thought of MacDonald’s.

That said, Veronica Chin’s Facebook profile is dubious at best as Chin appears to be from Montreal, Canada but resides in Singapore.

Some have pointed out that Chin’s Facebook URL appears to indicate that he is a man man-squerading as a woman.

At the end of the day, it appears that Chin would be the one having the last laugh in his capacity as a troll with all the attention garnered.

With thousands of comments and shares on her/his post, and with news outlets covering her/him (yes, we are guilty too if you consider us one), one question remains.

When will Chin strike again?

Only time will tell.

But at least there’s something comforting: when a post like this emerges, Singaporeans immediately reckon that’s it’s a troll account.

It means we’ve become “smarter” on the Internet, no?
