A foreign domestic worker (FDW) has been accused of slapping a boy under her care while at Tanjong Katong mall, KINEX.

A police report has since been lodged.

A Facebook post circulating on the group “Complaint Singapore” recently caught the attention of many Singaporeans.

I mean, after all, we’re all kaypoh, what can you expect?

So, what exactly was in the Facebook post? Well, it was an eyewitness account of how an FDW gave a boy “a very hard loud slap” on Saturday (28 December) at around 6:50 pm. The incident took place at the space-themed indoor playground, Wan to Play, located in the Tanjong Katong mall, KINEX.

The incident might have happened last year, but for things like these, it’s difficult to just “let bygones be bygones” lah.

According to the Facebook post, the FDW was pushed by a boy who appeared to be under her care. In response, the FDW allegedly turned around and gave the boy “a very hard loud slap” at the boy’s neck or face.

The post added that it was likely the slap missed the boy’s face.

And if you expected the boy to start crying, you’re wrong. According to Shin Min Daily News, the boy did not cry. Instead, he apparently gazed at the FDW with a confused look on his face.

Hais… We can already hear all the Gen Zs about to quote the “Queen Never Cry” meme.

The Facebook post also stated that the boy did not retaliate to the FDW’s slap, since after all, the boy was still a young child — he was sitting on a pram.

Stranger Calls FDW Out; FDW Scolds Boy Outside Instead

If you were in the situation where you just saw an FDW slap a boy, what would you do?

Well, the eyewitnesses who provided the account of the incident shared that she decided to indirectly call the FDW out. Specifically, she “purposely said very loudly” that she was shocked to see the FDW hit the boy.

Yet, that allegedly did not stop the FDW from continuing to lash out at the boy. According to the post, the FDW later scolded the boy right outside the play area, saying that the boy had pushed her.

The FDW even told the boy that she wanted to quit working for his family.

I mean, if the boy is still in a pram, I doubt he has much control over her employment…

Police Report Lodged By Eyewitness

A police report has since been lodged by the eyewitness

According to STOMP, the eyewitness lodged the police report so that the police could check the mall’s CCTV footage and identify the FDW.

We suppose it’s good to make sure the FDW is identified so that her employers can know about this lah. After all, if this were happening to your own child, you would want to know as well.

Further, as the Facebook post says, “if [the FDW] could do that in public, I’m not sure what she would do behind closed doors”.

The eyewitness also emphasised how “natural and quick” of a reaction the FDW’s reaction was, adding that it would not be a surprise if the incident wasn’t the first time the FDW had hit the boy.

Macam second nature like that.

Finally, the post wrapped up by urging other FDW employers not to “blindly trust” their FDWs. The post also encouraged FDW employers to check in with their children, do spot checks, and avoid leaving their children along with their FDWs for long hours if possible.
