Are we back in Circuit Breaker 2.0?
To clarify, we’re in Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) right now, which means that most of our sources of entertainment (shopping, bubble tea, cinemas, etc.) are still open. Yay!
But currently, one cinema chain has decided to pre-emptively pause its operations in light of the new clusters and cases in Singapore.
Because we all know if something isn’t strongly enforced, Singaporeans are going to take that chance to do it.
Ahem, ahem: this is to those rushing out just before the 16 May regulations.
A Cinema Chain in S’pore Has Paused Operations Until Further Notice
In a Facebook post, Filmgarde Cineplexes announced that the chain will be pausing the operations of all their cinema chains from Tuesday (18 May) onwards.
These include:
- Filmgarde Leisure Park
- Filmgarde Bugis+
- Filmgarde Century Square
The comapny will continue to monitor the ongoing developments and will “resume business in due course”.
This decision comes after Singapore’s move to a heightened Phase 2 alert and the tightening of safe management measures. The company notes that “the health and safety of all Singaporeans, residents and our staff are important to us.”
As for customers who have purchased movie tickets and would like to request a refund, you may write to Filmgarde Cineplexes at [email protected].
“We seek your kind understanding on this and we look forward to welcoming you back at our cinemas soon. Stay safe everyone!”
Filmgarde Launches Premium Cinema Hall With Premium Single Seating
Damn, this would have been the perfect time to utilise Filmgarde’s new single seating.
Gone are the days when you have to sneak surreptitiously into a theatre to view a movie alone because you’re embarrassed about not going with friends.
It’s a changing (read: pandemic stricken) world, and Filmgarde has recognised that in its entirety.
Back in April, the Cineplex unveiled a lovely surprise at their Leisure Park Kallang cinema:
Primo, an extravagant cinema hall that apparently comes with its own premium single seating!
Touted to be the first of its kind, the hall features uber-comfortable leatherette recliner chairs for you to unwind after a hard day/week of work. And there’s even some “shelter” to prevent any unwanted side glances from the nosy strangers next to you.
It seems that at long last, we can finally enjoy glorious me-time in a cinema hall, complete with privacy, food and utmost comfort.
But if you’re going for a date (which would’ve been perfect for the two-persons restrictions) you can look into their double-seated option: actual privacy cocoons.
The privacy cocoon is essentially a duo-version of the single seating, with a common armrest joining both seats.
As its name implies, it simulates a “cocoon” to ensure optimal privacy, with neighbouring seats cut off in distinct fashion.
In other words: zero disturbance.
Very sexy indeed.
The cinema hall will also come with two astounding features.
Firstly, it’s set to feature the biggest screen in its class.
And secondly, there will be an immersive 360 degrees audio experience with the “best in-class cinematic sound”.
“All around you” would have never sounded more… sensually intrusive?
But we’re not complaining, of course.
Too bad we have to wait till the Filmgarde Cineplexes opens up again, but better safe than sorry.
