What do you do when you’re caught doing something wrong?
Well, you could:
- Say please and ask for a second chance
- Apologise for the trouble caused
- Scold the officer because why the hell not?
Most normal human beings would probably go for option one or two. After all, you’ve done something wrong, so why make it worse, right?
But, as Badge Lady has proven, people who decide to go for the third option do exist.
And we’re going to talk about two of them in this article.
Two Women Verbally Abused Auxiliary Officer For Trying To Do Her Job
Back on 21 Sep 2020, Koh Lee Yen, 50, and Chee Kam Fah, 49, were approached by an auxiliary officer, Ms Asyikah Suri Kamsari, outside Lucky Plaza on Orchard Road.
She saw that they were smoking outside the designated smoking area and asked for their particulars to issue a summon to them.
Unfortunately for Ms Asyikah, the duo was less than happy with her.
And they were not afraid to show it.
As she was noting down Koh’s particulars, the pair started insulting her.
Phrases such as the following were uttered:
“Your salary how much, one thousand only one month I think…”
“Crazy girl, better go back and hug your pillow and cry, your salary not enough for me to buy a pillow…”
“Talk to rich people nicely, you’re a poor girl…”
It was added that Chee had used a vulgar word and Koh scolded the officer in Cantonese and Mandarin.
Now, if you think that was all, think again.
Chee also waved a S$1,000 note at the officer, telling her to “shut up and take the money”.
According to Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority documents, Chee and Koh are shareholders and directors of jewellery retailer Gold Star Resources.
Chee is a director in other companies and both of them hold shares in various companies.
Stressed Out
During mitigation, Chee and Koh said they were stressed out at that point in time.
Koh added that she was upset when she saw Ms Asyikah let go of two men who were doing the same thing.
The judge, however, pointed out that it was a different matter from insulting Ms Asyikah. It was also added that being stressed isn’t an excuse to “verbally abuse” the officer.
The prosecution asked for a fine between S$3,000 and S$4,000 for each woman.
State Prosecuting Officer Nasri Haron stated that the abuse was “prolong” and aimed to degrade and insult the officer.
On 8 Sep 2021, they were each slapped with a fine of S$3,000.
For insulting a public service worker, Chee and Koh could’ve been fined up to S$5,000, jailed up to a year, or both.
Moral of the Story
Everyone is just trying to make a living, especially during these troubled times. As shown time and again, when you’re caught doing something wrong, don’t make it worse for yourself.
On a separate note, here are the designated smoking areas for Orchard Road, which was officially designated a non-smoking area 2 years ago.
