A fire broke out at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) in Pulau Tekong on Friday afternoon, 20 Jun 2025.
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) confirmed that the incident occurred at an unoccupied accommodation block at around 1:50pm. The fire alarm was triggered at 1:51pm.
BMTC staff who heard the alarm quickly extinguished the blaze. No BMTC staff or trainees sustained injuries during the incident.

BMTC Fire Incident Captured on Social Media
A TikTok video posted on 20 Jun showed the aftermath of the fire.
Thick black smoke filled the room, with bunk mattresses tilted to the side. The bunk was covered in soot, and exposed electrical wiring along with a blackened ceiling could be seen.
An individual in army uniform was seen spraying the room with a water hose. The video caption read: “Tekong Viper coy bunk burn down.”
SAF and SCDF Investigate Pulau Tekong Fire Cause
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called to the scene. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is working with SCDF to investigate the cause behind the fire.
“The SAF remains committed to upholding high standards of fire safety to provide a safe environment for our service personnel,” MINDEF said. The ministry added they cannot provide further comments while investigations are ongoing.
In January 2024, 13 people were evacuated after a fire involving a generator occurred at an offshore fish farm near Pulau Tekong. No injuries were reported in that incident.
