It’s always good to frequently clear out garbage around the house.
Aside from the fact that your house will be clean, it also lessens the risk of potential accident hazards.
Unfortunately, one rather serious case regarding this matter has resulted in death and serious injuries.
48YO Woman Died After Fire Broke Out In Densely Packed HDB Flat in AMK
In a recent Facebook post by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they mentioned being alerted to a fire at 6.10am on 5 March, Friday.
This occurred on the 11th storey of Block 456 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.
Prior to firefighters arriving, 30 people had also evacuated themselves from the premise.
Several were alerted to it either through the smell of smoke or when they saw SCDF officers knocking and entering the flat.
However, upon entering the unit, they were greeted with a nasty sight: an extremely cluttered house.
SCDF said that amount of combustible items had likely caused the strong fire in the living room.
This proved to be an obstacle that slowed down firefighters’ movements, having to go around the mounts of trash.
Found A Young Man As Well
Eventually, two people were found amidst everything.
One was a 48-year-old woman found in the bedroom, who they said had “no pulse and was not breathing”.
SCDF officers did their best to perform CPR on her.
The other was a 20-year-old man found in the kitchen who was also seriously injured.
Both of them were rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while unconscious.
Unfortunately, the woman passed away from her injuries.
The fire was extinguished with one water jet and one compressed air foam backpack.
At this time of writing, the cause of the fire is still being investigated, though there doesn’t seem to be any foul play.
The death of the woman is also being investigated.
At the end of the post, SCDF warned against the accumulation of combustible items, saying it could hinder firefighting efforts.
Moreover, they also mentioned that these could fuel a fire and cause serious damage and may even be life-threatening.
Tuas Fire Incident
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only incident of a serious fire incident.
We recall that on 24 Feb, a fire broke out at an industrial building in Tuas.
Three migrant workers passed away from this tragedy, two of them also being the breadwinners of their family.
Another five were also sent to Singapore General Hospital in critical condition.
Compensation is currently being negotiated for the affected workers.
The Ministry of Manpower also promised to strengthen engagement and enforcement with the industrial sector.
