This marks the second significant fire in Singapore this month, following a deadly blaze at River Valley Road on 8 April that claimed the life of a 10-year-old Australian girl and injured 21 others.
Emergency Response
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called to the scene at People’s Park Complex, a prominent landmark in Chinatown.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact time the fire started or how long it took to bring under control.
First responders transported six people to nearby hospitals for treatment. The current condition of those hospitalised remains unknown.
Recent Fire Incidents in Singapore
This incident follows closely after the tragic fire at River Valley Road on 8 April 2025, where flames engulfed the second and third floors of a shophouse housing the Tomato Cooking School.
In that incident, construction workers used scaffolding and ladders to rescue children trapped on window ledges. Eyewitnesses described seeing unconscious children with severe burns being carried from the building.
The River Valley fire resulted in the death of a 10-year-old Australian girl and injuries to 21 others, including 16 children aged between six and 10.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents to determine the exact causes and whether additional safety measures are needed in commercial buildings throughout Singapore.
