A fire erupted at a two-storey industrial building located at 18 Tampines Street 92 today (9 May 2025), prompting evacuations of nearby students and office workers.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the blaze at approximately 12:50pm on 9 May 2025.
Thick black smoke billowed from the affected building, visible from as far as Bedok and Simei.

Emergency Response
SCDF officers battled the fire with five water jets at the scene.
Emergency response was swift, with one witness reporting seeing three fire engines and two ambulances rushing to the location.
SCDF said that it used ater monitor from a Combined Platform Ladder (CPL) deployed for aerial firefighting.
Evacuations and Safety Measures
Students from Middleton International School near the fire site were gathered on the ground floor of the school compound as part of evacuation procedures.
Office workers in buildings opposite the burning warehouse were instructed to evacuate their premises at around 1:20pm.
Authorities are advising residents in the vicinity to keep windows closed due to the smoke and ash being carried by the wind.
Witness Accounts
“Plenty of ash coming into the flats here because of wind direction,” Ms Caroline Bone, a resident who observed the smoke from her flat at Simei Street 1, told Channel NewsAsia.
The smoke plume was visible from considerable distances, including Changi General Hospital along Simei Street 3 and Temasek Polytechnic at Tampines Avenue 1.

Location and Current Status
The industrial building is situated near SAFRA Tampines and not far from Tampines Mall.
No injuries have been reported so far, and the cause of the fire remains unknown as firefighting operations continue.
