In my years of experience as a human being in Singapore, I’ve come to learn two things:
- Never trust influencers. Their high-SES lifestyle is to feed their ego and make us feel bad, and in real life, they have Maggi Mee every day and travel farthest to Sentosa
- Never trust the weathermen. Tying a stone outdoors with a string and seeing whether it’s wet or not is a better prediction of the weather than the weathermen
For #1, it’s driven by my jealousy after scrolling through various Instagram accounts.
For #2, it’s driven by the lack of winter last month, when the weathermen claim that there could be one but it’s still hot af daily.
But hey: the weathermen have spoken again, and this time, it’s bad news so it should be accurate.
Because it’s going to be hot for the first half of 2019.
Hot, Rain and Wind to Start The Year
Meteorological Service Singapore sent us a New Year gift yesterday with a piece of news that’s so not newsworthy: it’s going to be hot in the first two week of January, and there would be rain as well.
It’s like telling us that water is wet, and that I’m handsome.
Lest you’re not aware because you didn’t go into our app daily (why?!), it’s the Northeast Monsoon season now: there would be more rain, so whoever is going for outfield exercise is having some tough days ahead.
There would be heavy thundery showers in the afternoon for six or eight days, and in the first week, it would be super windy as well.
After the first week, it’ll be less windy, but there would be more rain.
However, chances of flooding—ponding, I mean—is low as rainfall is expected to be near-normal.
HOOOT
On most days, the temperate would be between 24°C and 33°C.
On days without rain, the temperature could go all the way to 100°C.
Sorry, I mean 34°C.
It’s just that in the last few days, it felt like 100°C to me, and I thought it’s just another day #justsaying
In other words, if you feel like the whole of Singapore has become a sauna when it’s not raining in the last few days, be prepared for more sauna-filled days.
And also, unlike January 2018, you can most likely kiss goodbye to hopes of a winter Singapore again.
