First Half Of Jan 2020 Is Going To Be Super Windy & Slightly Rainy

Something strange has been happening in Singapore lately.

It’s been… cool.

In the old days, and by that I mean before December 2019, no matter how you commuted to work – a bus, train, or car -you’d leave the house cool and dry and reach your workplace looking like you took a shower with your clothes on.

And November was the hottest November ever, so I’m not exaggerating.

But then the Sun decided to take a break from searing our skins. Why? Some point to monsoon surges but I’d like to think that the Sun actually cares about us.

That’s why December was so cool, with temperatures as low as 21.4°C. Thankfully, January promises to be a windy and rainy month, and though it may not be as cool as its older brother, it’ll still be a pleasant start to the new year.

Cool first two weeks

According to the Singapore Meteorological Service (MSS), Singaporeans can expect it to be super windy and a little rainy in the first half of January.

The first week is going to be incredibly windy with a few light rainy days. It’ll be less windy in the second week, but there’ll be a few days of thundery showers.

The daily temperatures on most days for the first two weeks of January 2020 are forecast to range between 24°C and 33°C.

And, lucky for us, temperatures could dip to a low of around 23°C on a few nights. That certainly wouldn’t be considered cold in most parts of the world but in a country that experiences high temperatures throughout the year…

However, the daily maximum temperature could still reach a high of around 34°C on a few days.

Why is it cooler?

The gusty winds and cooler temperatures can be attributed to the prevailing wet phase of the Northeast Monsoon season in the region.

Northeast Monsoon conditions had persisted over Singapore in December 2019, which, as you know, was a rather wet and chilly month.

Low-level winds were blowing from the north or northeast as well.

So, prepare your umbrellas and hoodies for January because you’re going to get wet.
