Singapore roads are dangerous to be on nowadays.

Lorry drivers are getting their side mirrors removed violently.

And said lorry drivers proceed to almost knock down the offenders.

But now, there’s now one more danger drivers in Singapore have to look out for.

Flying rocks.

Car Innocently Driving Below Flyover When Unexpected Guest Dropped In

How would you react if there you are, minding your own business, and driving towards Woodlands with your pregnant wife along BKE, and all of a sudden, something fast dropped down from the flyover above and smashes into your car?

Believe it or not, that’s what allegedly happened to this unfortunate individual identified as Nicholas Sim.

The incident allegedly happened at 31/12/2018 at around 2.30pm.

On 2 Jan, a video was uploaded on popular Facebook Page, ROADS.sg.

It showed his car travelling along BKE towards Woodlands.

When he drove under the Rifle Range Road Flyover, a rock dropped onto his windscreen and smashed into his car.

According to Sim, his steering wheel helped to deflect the flying rock into the rear seat behind him.

Yes, it means the rock broke through into the car.

At that time, his pregnant wife was seated beside him and thankfully, there was nobody in the back seats of the car.

Blames Heavy Vehicles For The Flying Rock

When he finally found the uninvited guest, he was shocked at the size of the concrete rock that smashed into his car.

“I could have had my head or chest smashed in with such force, or my pregnant wife could have had a similar or worse injury if the trajectory was to the left. Steering wheel bore the brunt of the force.”

He said that the rock could’ve come from a heavy vehicle driving on the flyover at high speeds, causing the rock to dislodge.

And he will be sending the video to the relevant authorities “for advice”, hoping to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Our Colleague’s Personal Story

After reviewing the footage, one of our colleagues who drove decided to chime in his experience.

“Once, I was driving behind a truck when a pallet dropped in front of me. I somehow managed to swerve away and the car behind me jam braked. Since then, I’ve always tried not to drive behind a truck or at least keep a distance from them.”

In other words, it seems like this is pretty common.

Netizens’ Comments

When it comes to hot topics like these, you know you’d have to dive deep into the comments section of the video.

And, oh boy, was it a treasure this time.

While there are some who’s more than happy to support the heavy vehicle theory

There are others who went one step further and blame the authorities for not enforcing the rules enough.

Then, there are the more practical ones.

One even referenced the AYE incident.

As for what’s the AYE incident?

Back in Jun 2018, SG Road Vigilante uploaded a Facebook post, alleging that people were throwing rocks in the early morning.

A car’s windscreen was smashed, a motorcyclist skidded and had to undergo multiple sessions of skin grafts.

And another car’s windscreen was smashed by a rock wrapped in newspaper.

Whatever it is, here’s something everyone should be aware of: be alert, because there are idiots on the road.
