2 More Markets & Food Centres to Close & 1 More KTV Lounge Linked to New COVID-19 Cases

A record was broken yesterday (20 July), but it’s not exactly a record we wanted.

182 new COVID-19 cases in the community were reported, our highest number of locally transmitted cases ever.

Our two biggest clusters continue to grow, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) is testing more and more people by the day.

Here are the details about yesterday’s cases:

2 More Markets & Food Centres to Close & 1 More KTV Lounge Linked to New COVID-19 Cases

Of the 182 new cases, 142 were linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, which now has 321 cases.

Ongoing transmission were found at two more markets and food centres, compelling the authorities to close both establishments.

MOH said 25 infections were detected at Haig Road Market and Food Centre, while another 10 were found at Chong Pang Market.

Both places will be closed from today (21 July) till 4 Aug to break the chain of transmission and enable deep cleaning of the premises, the ministry explained.

MOH is also extending free COVID-19 testing to visitors of  Chong Boon Market and Food Centre, which the ministry previously closed on 18 July. It will only be permitted to reopen on 2 Aug.

Those who visited the centre between 3 July and 17 July can book an appointment for a free test here.

In addition, 14 cases were linked to the KTV cluster, which now has 207 infections.

Another KTV lounge – Club MX at 401 MacPherson Road – is likely to have ongoing COVID-19 transmission, MOH said.

All visitors to the affected premises are advised to monitor their health closely, and minimise social interactions as far as possible for 14 days from their date of visit or interaction.

As always, visitors should see the doctor immediately if they feel unwell.

26 Active Clusters

It wasn’t all bad news though, as two COVID-19 clusters were closed after no new cases were linked to them for 28 days, or two incubation periods.

The clusters are the ones linked to Case 64233 and 90 Redhill Close.

In total, there are 26 active clusters in Singapore, with infections ranging between three and 321.

332 Patients In Hospital

At the moment, there are 332 COVID-19 patients in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.

Five serious cases required oxygen support, while one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Over the past 28 days, 10 patients were admitted to the ICU or required oxygen supplementation. One patient succumbed to the illness.

Among them, seven were unvaccinated, while three had received one dose of the vaccine. None was fully vaccinated.

2.79 million people have now been fully vaccinated, meaning nearly 50% of the population have completed their vaccination regimen.

Meanwhile, 4.16 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which accounts for more than 70% of the population.
